I have used up five (expensive) treo 600 in two years, as they kept on breaking down one after the other (parasites, mike, earphones, ... you name it), but so far I have enjoyed proper support from PalmOne (Belgium/Benelux).
For the last two weeks though I have tried to get in touch with the repairs service (a broken screen, my fault this time) but they have vanished!
No useful contact can be made through the web site, no answer from supporting telephone number (we'll call you back...), and even with the help of the Belnelux HQ no PalmOne e-mail adress answered my simple request.
So why bother waiting for the 650, if they let you down with a € 850 unit with a broken screen.
A pity no one else does "real" Palm based smartphones !
Any suggestion ?

Caveat Emptor - Stay away from PalmOne Treo 600 and the rest of their product line. The 600 has some problems that when you try and get a fix with the company the customer service is horrible. I brought one of the first ones, and to be truthful it's a cool device. However, its has a bug that many of them have, whereby it shuts the phone off with the slightest of bumb, which can be very annoying. I reported this to them back in mid December, and after waiting 40 minutes on the tech line, they said that they would replace it within 2 weeks. Here it is mid Feb and no replacement. I have tried by email, no less than 6 times, to get an answer and only get placated and directed to the tech line. I've tried the the tech line atleast another half dozen times and it is always busy and the wait 30 minutes plus - this is when I usually hang up in frustration. To date I have only talked to a live persone one time in all these attempts. I have requested numerous times on the emails to speak with a supervisor, but this request is ignored. The customer support is astonishly horrible and may be due to the fact that the company is having problems with management, etc...

welcome to the club.. I'm thinking about ditching my T600 too.
I've paid almost $400 for mine with upgrade fr older Treo and had it for 13 months with constant problem. Everyone told me that my phone sound terrible and they could never hear me w/o interfearance. Wireless drops and turn off all the time especially around my own house. My last straw was when it turn the wireless mode off by itself more than 6 times in a day when I needed a phone for business and I have missed many important calls, so I can't ignore it anymore. email to palmone returned instructions to hard-reset the phone and call my wireless service provider... Palm will blame Cingular for the quality of call and Cingular siad it is hardware problem... so i'm more than skeptical to even think about the T650 even with after reading all the good reviews about them. I am going back to not so smart phone that does what it does best, making phone calls. icon_mad.gif

All,

After owning my treo 600 for 3 weeks I found that the screen on my treo 600 got cracked... when or how? I don't know. I had it inside one of those hard aluminum cases and didn't drop it. the glass is ok but the crystall has a 1 inch crack about the middle.

I tried to get help from Cingular Customer (Un)care to see how much it would cost me to repair it and they refered me to PalmOne... PalmOne ofcourse (as you all know) refers you back to Cingular.

Since neither one of them seems to want to deal with me I'm just going to return the equipement since it's under 30 days and cancel the service. If they give me any crap I'll get my money back through my credit card company.

Stay away from Cingular and PalmOne line of products!

ps. if you're a palm representative and give a rat's A$$ about customer service, you'd do something about it.

Rats!!! there goes another (NOT) satisfied T600/Cingular user..
You are lucky you have that option to return it, some of us got stuck..
I am looking for another phone already but am doing intense research so I won't make the same mistake again.
Life was so much simpler when I was just using the Nokia phones for just the phone.
I am thinking about the Moto V551 read lots of reviews on cnet and PCworld seems to think it is very good. Most of the users' bad review is about battery life.. I know it sucks but at least you can buy back up battery but you can't buy dropped and missed calls in the most ignorant customer services like Palm one and have one to spare...
I think I will check my credit card extended warranty also , since we did pay over $400 for the d_ _ _ thing... icon_devil.gif

I own a thinkpad which is a piece of crap when you compare it to other laptops in the same price range... but I own it because I'm happy with the customer service I get from IBM.

Customer service is everything... I'm willing to pay to fix my Treo but it seems that Palm and Cingular won't let me.

You're right, I'm lucky that I can walk away from these idiots and find a company that WANTS my business.

thanks for replying

Go to sprint they have decant support for the treo 300, 600, 650 it could be better but a friend of mine says it could be worse. She had a cracked screen and got a new treo 600 from the sprint store under warranty she was really impressed compared to her old provider.

The A$$holes at Cingular are not giving me my money back for the Treo which broke after only 3 weeks of use. They would not offer me any exchange or the option of paying to have the device repaired, and becausae I signed the contract less than 30 days ago I was able to get them to cancel it. I am now going through my credit card company to get my money back.

Again, if there is anyone out there thinking about going to Cingular DON'T.

I now have a Treo 650 from Sprint which seems to actually care about whether or not they have customers.

thanks again for all the help and advice from this forum

oh and one more thing... the Cingular disabled my phone numbers so I could not transfer them to Sprint.

So not only they dicked me for the price of the Treo they also shafted me out of my phone numbers.

Caveat Emptor indeed, STAY AWAY from Cingular!!!

You guys/gals should consider getting cases for your phones, or sticky gloves.

If you're destroying 5+ phones in 2 years you have some serious issues.
