OK, I know there is a thread for this already but it doesn't cover it exactly...

So what are the exact instructions? I've created some MP3 files, all well under 100k and under 30 seconds. I signed up for vzwpix, but apparently you can't send mp3 or midi files from their website? So I sent 2 .mp3 files to my cellphone by attaching them to an email for mycell#@vzwpix.com... my cell recieved the pix message, but now what do I do? I can't seem to access the mp3's, theres a option to "save sound" but it says no sound!

Please explain to me how to do this, I have an LG VX7000 and the ringtones on get it now are over priced, and use the weirdest places in songs, not to mention the lack of variety... anyways, help! thanks icon_biggrin.gif

Found the answer...

1. Open up any .mp3 file in a free music editor program like Audacity and clip
out part of the file that you wish to make into a ringtone, keeping it at
about 30 seconds.

2. For best sound keep the .mp3 at 24 bit sample rate, 44khz frequency and
stereo, no need to change any of these attributes.

3. Change the encoder bit rate down to between 48 and 64, then resave the
.mp3 making sure that it is not bigger than 300kb. Anything encoded under
48 bit rate will sound bad and anything over 64 is a waste and the file size
becomes to big.

4. Find your new 30 second .mp3 on your hard drive, make sure you have
file extensions turned on in windows (explorer/tools/folder options) and
then right click the file and change the extension from .mp3 to .mid

5. Open up your email and attach the .mid file, make sure that you have
nothing in the subject or body of the email. Email the file to your phone
at yourphonenumber@vzwpix.com .If you dont subscribe to a call package
from verizon each time you send or recieve something via vwzpix.com you
will be charged 25 cents, still way cheaper than buying ringtones.

6. After you email the .mid file to your phone it may take a couple of minutes
before your phone announces that you have a pix message. Open up your
pix message, play or preview your new ringtone if you want and then just
just save sound. There is no need to rename it or change file extension.

7. Sometimes you will get a message along the lines of "messege cant be
recieved, file is a 100000 bytes", just click view message anyway and
the file will be there.

I tried this with the LG VX6100 but I got this message:
Unsupported content type audio/midi
trackname.midi

Can this process be made to work with the 6100? With applications like Xingtone, Verizon only allows for 3 seconds or so of audio, no matter what the size of the file.

I still do not understand how to create the ringtone. If someone could tell me how to change the encoder, and how to switch to .mid from a .mp3. Things like that would, THANKS!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Hi everyone,
I have went thru these posts and I still cannot get my verizon LG vx6100 phone to play any mp3 or midi files. I have encoded them and tried to save them as 64 bitrate mp3 files and then remame them to mid files and send them to my phone number at vzwpix.com I get the pix message....but then it always says "unsupported content type/audio/midi" and then list the file in question. I have a 30 second clip that I want to use as a ring tone and from some of the post here, I think it can be done. Does anybody have any suggestions.....or I'm I going to have to upgrade to a 7000 phone.....I just got the lg vx6100 about a week ago.
Would appreciate any help....thanks

Followed the instructions that Rastafaria posted, and they worked well for sending the message. But Verizon tells me when I open the message that I have to view the "PIX or FLIX" message on their website, not on my phone. Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong or how to correct this? Thanks, gang!

PS I'm working with an LG VX4500.

I believe the trick is to simply change the name of the MP3 file you have created to .mid. You don't actually create a MIDI file or change the encoding in any way; you just name an mp3 xxxx.mid .

Worked great for me. Now if only I could figure out a way to make the music louder...

There are a few things missing in all this...

1) The file name must be one word: Yes) letsgetitstarted.mp3 No) lets get it started.mp3

2) LG 8k, 7k and 6k series phones can accept MP3 extensions. There is NO need to rename the files with a .MID extension.

3) The size of the ringer is very important. As it states above, 48-64Kbps is perfect. Make sure the file you convert is this size - or use pre-recorded ones off the internet.

4) If you email the ringer to your phone, the audio quailty is automatically diminished. If you data cable the file to your phone, it is not. For stronger cleaner rings, just spend about $10 for a data cable off ebay or $20 for one at Radio Shack and download Bitpim for free. This will allow you to send all the ringtones you would like for free. Also it allows you to back up the data in your phone incase you ever need to replace it - ringers, GIN content, videos, etc.

5) You cannot transfer MP3 files from phone to phone via pix messaging.

Now, as far as emailing the ringers to the 6100 phones that everyone is having trouble with. You have a 30k limit on 'email transfers' on the 6100 - or at least the early models did. I personally worked with someone where we couldn't send the files via email, but it turned out to work just fine with the DC and Bitpim - the same DC that works with the 6000 and 7000 by the way...

Well hope this offered a bit more insight - if you need any additional help, please email me at waazzupppp@hotmail.com with your questions.
