I am in almost the exact same situation . Any luck unlocking?
I've done probably the same online research that you have; seems everything out there charges a fee - sucks to have to pay to unlock.
Maybe we could "accidentally" break our phones and get a warranty replacement ?

Have a question. I am an AT&T customer with corporate sponsorship. I would like to migrate to Cingular but they won't let me re-use my current phone: 5 month old Moto V551. The offer same new one for me to buy! All I want to do is to get 1 new phone and keep my Moto with new 2 year contract.
take the free phone... unlock the 551 and transfer the sim
If V551 was easy to unlock I would not ask the question...

Hi there. Let's see if I can be clear about my situation. 10 months ago I signed a 2 year contract with AT&T (after Cingular had bought it). I kept my AT&T service plan because it was still better than Cingular. Yesterday morning my phone broke. I went to a Cingular store and they told me I had to upgrade to a new phone and a Cingular plan. I thought, "what ever, i just need a phone." So now i have switched and am so sad that I did. I am not getting all of my text messages. So many of my friends on Sprint, Verizon and Cingular have said they text messaged me but I am not receiving them. I called customer service yesterday and they said that nothing is wrong. I went back to the store and switched my phone and sim card. -- Sill not able to receive text messages however I am able to send. Any suggestions? Also, If i'm unable to resolve the problem I'd like to go back to my old AT&T plan. The sales guy told me yes, this is possible but it will take 4 business days to get a new sim card-- thus 4 days without a phone. Is there anything else I can do?

call custoemr care and decline the upgrade to cingular offer. depending on the rep, there may be phones available. however, it will only be 4 crappy nokia models at the most...if any.
there are phones in stock, but they are exremely limited. most are kept to honour warranty/insurance.

If my AT&T phone broke and I have a sim card--can I just buy the same phone on ebay and get it up and running by adding the new sim card and charging the battery?

I'm here to answer any general questions, I work at AT&T (now cingular) and I get to still handle AT&T Customers! (Yay!)
I can answer general questions, but I do have a limit on what I can do (no account specific information!)
I've looked around the posts a little bit, and it seems alot of people are confused, so feel free to email me, and I'll do whatever I can to help!
I have a t721 motorola that I was using with at&t before and now I have cingular what can I do to be able to make work with my new provider.
