you need to make sure it's ATT branded or unlocked.

Ok I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I signed up for AT&T Gophone about 2 years ago and got a Nokia 3590. It's really outdated now so I want to update to a new phone while still keeping my original gophone service plan, which Cingular doesn't offer anymore. I went to the Cingular store and they said I needed to get a new sim card if I wanted to get a new phone. But this would mean I'd have to get a new gophone service plan, which I don't want.
Will my old Nokia 3590 sim card work with any unlocked phone that I buy from ebay, let's say the Motorola V80, or any phone really and will I still be able to keep my same service plan? thanks!

yes it will... I would make sure the unlocked phone that you buy is 850 mhz capable tho... if its 1900 only your reception will suck

got it, thanks that helps. so if the phone just says the frequency is 900/1800/1900 or even just 1800/1900 does that mean my phone won't work or just that the reception will be bad?

Sorry to double post, but no one has responded to the thread I started to ask if there are data settings that work for the SLVR L6 or L7 (WAP/MMS/GPRS) for AT&T blue SIM. I read a post somewhere that RAZR settings don't work and the SLVR is not on the device support page for former AT&T. Can anyone help me here? Thanks.

I am locked into AT&T through my employer and we are not switching over yet. I want to get a new Z520a but it is not available to us. How can I get my hands on one? It is not fair that they are strangling us. I cannot pay 200 for one on ebay!

After all the promises of taking care of AT&T Wireless customers, Cingular is out to force ATTW customers to switch to Cingular, with all-new phones and additional charges for a forced switch. This is highway robbery ... isn't there a way to complain to a state Attorney General?
I learnt this the hard way - we have a ATTW family plan, and my daughter lost her phone. When I called to get a replacement, I was told that either she had to get a new Cingular plan all for herself (at a higher cost) or I had to switch all four of us to Cingular phones (at a much higher cost)! On top of that, I was told that the forced switchover to Cingular was inevitable, so I might as well get over it now! I need the ability to use unlocked phones (for my BMW phone) ... and Cingular does not allow the use of unlocked phones either! Its Cingular phones or else "get lost", and that former AT&T Wireless customers are out of luck since their provider was acquired.
I think this is truly unbelievable and unacceptable behavior following a merger - essentially, Cingular is out to steal from former ATTW customers. Where are State Attorney Generals when you need them?
I am switching to T-Mobile today ...

I have a question. I have an unlocked hp IPAQ hw 6515. I put my ATT sim card and the internet does not work. I subscribe thru ATT for unlimted internet services. I tried settings for both Cingular and ATT wireless (Proxy) Nothing works. Is is possible to get it working or will I have to migrate to Cingular?
If possible , what should I do? If its not possible, and I decide to ""migrate" would I have to have Cingular relock the phone. It was originally a cingular phone that came with an unlock code. Thanks for your help.
I am reluctant to migrate because I use 2 lines; we are on the West coast and use the early nights and weekends plan frequrently to call relatives back east as well as other people befoe they go to sleep. It would cost $14 extra to put both phones on the plan. Plus a comperable priced plan with Cingular would give me fewer daytime minutes. The standard pactive in the Wireless industry has been to keep you on the same promotional beneefits for life; when you upgrade you keep it but must extend your contact commitment. Cingular promised ATT wireless customers they would not be affected byt the merger; I feel they havent lived up to that promis for its only true until you try to upagrade phones.
thank you again for any help you can be.
