I recently bought an unlocked motorola v635 for my ATT gophone service (grandfathered). however, I cannot receive or send any text messages, which i never had a problem with my old nokia. Can anyone help?
anybody who gets an unlocked phone and wants at&t service, and the phone is not at&t branded, they will have data problems (sms, mms, mMode, ect, ect). also call in to verify the message center with us

Could you help me configure a samsung phone that is not supported by cingular?
I have a Samsung D500 and I am a former ATT carrier subscriber. I can not find the settings for this phone for all the uses (SMS, GPRS, email, etc.). Nor do I find games or other apps for this phone.
Elmo01, you may have an answer to this, since the rep who started this thread apparently is no longer here.
Next week I will be going up to NYC with my school and I had a rather specific question concerning my service.
To give you some background I signed up for AT&T's Free-2-Go prepaid service back when they still had their variable price per minute (depending on how much you buy, you know $10=.50c/min, $25=.35c/min, etc.).
Well about 8 months ago, while helping my sister get her prepaid TDMA service activated, I ended up switching myself to the "new" rate plan they were putting her on, .25c/min for any $$$ refill ammount,
(which is the only one they had at that point for Free-2-Go) I only did this after being on the phone with CS for about half an hour trying to get assurances that doing so would provide me with a "larger" coverage area than I already had, (which suposedly was what my sister was going to get). Less roaming, larger home covaerage area, etc.
The reason I bring this up is because just today I went out to San Angelo, TX (about three hours west of where I live) and once I got there, my phone said that I was in Extended Area (was in anaglog most of the way there, with no complaint) and was getting charged roaming for calls I made there, even though I know that ATT/Cingular has TDMA out there.
So what I was wondering, when I go to NYC, will that be Ext. Area, and if so, will I be roaming?
I apologize for my lengthy posts, I just like being thorough so that you have any and all info you might need in your assesment.
Thanks in advance.

there are 2 free to go plans...
a local plan and a national plan....
if you are local and go to NYC you will have roaming charges .69/min
if you are national roaming is included....
my advice is call customer care (611 on your phone its free airtime) and ask them if you are local or national (rate plan title)
yes in NYC there is TDMA coverage

Thanks elmo,
I know that I am already on the local plan, so that answers my question. But on the new one rate plan, roaming is now .69/min? Before with my varialble rate it was .85/min.
Just want to clarify.
Thanks.

Oh and btw, would you happen to know where I could find some maps showing my new local home calling area that is supposed to come with moving to the .25/min plan. I have found some of my original area, here:
http://www.1800mobiles.com/attcoveragemaps.html
but not of the expanded area. Thanks again.

I stand corrected....
I went digging and found this at the bottom of a page
Roaming rate for Prepaid Local is $.85/min, NOT $.69/min as the map legends state

I'm ATT mmode customer. Unlocked my smt5600, the sms, internet, mms, and other applications work fine, but the new cingular sim card that I acquired boots the phone but reads no service. How do you activate it without switching to cingular?

I still have it in the phone but I was wondering since I unlocked the phone I would be able to choose cingular as a preferred network, but it will not let me. My only options are att, tmobile & 310410 whatever that is? I can see the cingular network 310180 but it will not let me add it
