I was wondering, I'm a current AT&T customer, if I buy a phone on amazon, can I just bring it to a now Cingular store and have them migrate my number?
yes... there is still a contract tho... usually there is a nuthin or next to nuthin phone...take it and keep it as a spare.... be carefule at amazon tho... if you order there you may be ordering another phone number... ensure it is device only

Any At&t branded phone can be used with a prepaid and or postpaid account. There are not specifically made prepaid phones and then specifially made postpaid phones. Just pop your sim card in that you use for your monthly At&t account and you have nothing to worry about. You will definately not get charged for any type of prepaid use. Enjoy your new phone!

for all the cellphone gods,
I am totally new when it comes to the wonderful world cool new cellphones. I've been an At&t customer on a family talk plan for the last few years. Since the mergers i've been dying to get a really cool phone - for me really cool either means the SE S700i or a Samsung P777. Both are cingular phones. I was wondering, is their anyway I can use these phones with my current AT&T plan? I mean, if I purchase an unlocked phone off of ebay or something like that, is it possible? Currently I don't want to switch over to cingular due to the extra cost in the form of both time and money. I hate a hassle and I have a pretty good deal as of right now.
I appreciate any help you can send my way - thanks
update - what happens if I purchase like a european phone or one i get when i travel to india or hong kong? If its a GSM phone and I get it unlocked, will it work on AT&T network?

you can use any phone that is 850/1900 mhz capable... as long as its unlocked just slip in the sim and away you go!!
euopean phone are 900/1800.... most of them have either 850 and/or 1900 capability as well just check the model specs at the mfr website prior to buying
