Elmo01,
I posted this earlier in this thread, do you have any thoughts or suggestions?
I signed up for ATT gsm, last may and purchased the NEC 525. Phone is great but I want a new one. WHen I purchased the phone there were big posters everywhere that stated every year ATT custimers were eligible for new equipment(I think it was a $75 credit towardfs the purchase of a new phone.
So I called ATT(now Cingular) and tell them I would like to upgrade my phone using the Att credit, they say they have never heard of this special before and will not acknowledge it. Does anyone else remember this, and if so how can I prove it to Cingular? Maybe a web reference?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
Thanks

I'll bet that your landline phone is a cordless...its called RF spillover or burn-thru... the reciever on the cordless is within the bandpass or a harmonic/sub-harmonic of the 850 or 1900 mhz signal that your phone operates on...if you power the pohne on you will be able to hear it register in as well.... this phenomena is common on speaker phones as well... |
So thanks for the post, but my phone is not cordless. It's acutally a wired headset. But even when it happens and I switch over to the corded handset, I still get the same buzzing and static sound. One other thing that is weird is that I also get the same sound coming from my computer speakers. I can always tell when I'm recieiving an SMS message or an incoming call before the phone rings, because I hear the buzz starting over my speakers. Is there any way to makes adjustments to avoid it? Maybe a device on my headset cord or phone line. What about buying a headset or phone that has some sort of sheilding built in. Is there such a thing? I'm desperate here. It's really bad.

not that I know of...
try putting the cell further away from where you are with the phone...(other side of the room)

that 75.00 credit sounds like a rebate offer when you originally bought the phone...
or mebbe sometimes around christmas there are short lived promos for contract renewals...
on your phone...
why not just migrate to Cingular...? ATT cant sell you a phone in all likelyhood probabaly because they (we) have very limited supplies variable by market
... the other option is ebay...

There was a rebate on my phone (nec 525), but the deal I am talking about specified that every year At&T customers were eligible for a credit towards new equipment.

What you are describing sounds like a promotional credit that was active last spring for a new customer sign-up or contract renewals at that time (a limited time offer)...
AFAIK the NEC 525 is no longer in production...so finding a "new" one may prove challenging to say the least...
as a solution...
look at your rate plan... compare it to the currently offered Cingular plans... decide what works better for you (there are pluses and minuses on both sides)... if the new Cingular works better... migrate your phone number over (then you get a discounted phone of your choice... pick something close to the 525 like a SE Z500A) if the ATT plan works better for you... go to ebay...att only has limited phones available as Cingular bought them last fall...
hope that helped

hi Elmo,
My company is offering discounts to att costumers, but the phone I like (p777) is only available thru cingular. My question is can I still get those discounts(4%off bill)?
Thanks

you would be ordering your equipment thru NBO (National Business Operations) that is the only way you can get your discount... I am conmsumer customer care so I cant say with certainty that you will be able to reatin you ATT service but you may be asked to migrate to cingular... call and check your options (888) 444-4410
