Wanting to switch my two kids over to my AT&T account to start a family plan... AT&T says no - must go to Cingular.
I have an expensive phone and a 2 yr plan on AT&T... must I open a new account to put the kids on Cingular? 2 bills as well?
Anyone know if I can get 2 good phones that download MP3 ring tones and are good for text messaging - for free or nearly with a new activation?
Frustrated Mom...

As for as I know after the AT&T / Cingular merger all AT&T accounts are now Cingular, so you should be able to just add your kids onto your bill and turn it into one family plan.
As for free phones with MP3s and text messaging, you can go here and compare phones in Cingular's network.

Nope... They will still be leaving my AT&T account alone... Probably until the end of my contract, so the kids would need to be a new account - on Cingular, unless I can figure out a work-around...

you might be able to get a shared plan on at&t thru another vendor (like a1 wireless or something like that). Then as soon as you get activated, move all your lines onto one account and make them share.
That is your only option for AT&T service. Your other option would be to look at cingular's website (www.cingular.com) and see if you can get new activations for them. They are offering some great deals on new phones there, plus the Cingular plans offer Rollover, which is unavailiable with AT&T plans.
Unfortunately, AT&T stores and AT&T customer care are not performing any new activations unless it is for Cingular (which is NOT on the same billing network as AT&T).
I would try to get service thru one of the vendors that still have access to new activations for AT&T, wait a month and consolidate the lines to one account, and create your family plan then.

I called customer care a few days ago with the same question and they said that the only way to add a line (few) is to go to attws.com and add lines to your existing account there... try that, i'm positive that'll work!!!
