I've had a Samsung i600 for about a year now, but I've got a new job and I can't get a Verizon signal in my new building. So I'm going to go with a different carrier. (My co-workers get a good signal in our building with their US Cellular or AT&T phones.)
I bought the i600 in the first place so I wouldn't have to carry both a PDA and a phone. It has worked out well, but I find that the only PDA features I really use are the calendar and contacts that sync to Microsoft Outlook. I don't read my email or Office documents on my phone; I don't play games; I don't use the MP3 player much.
So I'm thinking that maybe I don't need such a sophisticated (expensive) phone, but I do need a phone that will easily sync to the contacts and calendar in Microsoft Outlook, and easily allow you to find a contact or view your schedule on the phone screen.
Which phones do that well?

My brother uses a Motorola MPx200, it's quite cheap and syncs very easily with Outlook (Outlook 2002 is also included in the sales package!).
When he is in the office he keeps the phone connected to his laptop. The phone charges via USB, it syncs automatically all incoming emails (I know, you don't need it, but it's worth mentioning it ) and the contact syncing is also very easy.
The phone only needs Active Sync of Microsoft, no other fancy software like other phones.
The phone works with Windows Mobile, so you might take a look at phones with this OS.

The Nokia 6682 does syncing pretty well, and it's easy to use. It does have some problems, though. For example, you can check IMAP or POP accounts using the phone, but I can't figure out how to delete an account once it has been set up.

Convenient tool for your Outlook: "Contacts Collector". Test it for improvement working with MS Outlook.
ContactsCollector adds people you correspond with to your Address Book.

probabaly easiest if you look for a phone that uses windows mobile as an operating system... the motorola MPX line (220 from att/cingular) is along those lines... full fledged PDA's could get expensive... cingular just came out with their own branded model 2125 which ms mobile OS and relatively reasonable in price...

Hey, william, I think by "inexpensive" he meant something that doesn't cost between $300-$400.

ive been using imate jam for a while now & am thinking of changing phones. ive realized that im only using the oulook calender & contacts synchronization right now, so want to move from windows phone to somethign like samsung u700. upon checking i found that samsung u700 does not sync w outlook. im now thinking of going for motorola z8; can anyone comment on z8's sync w outlook, as that is a key requirement for me and also generally on z8's performance.

I know this is awfully pricey, but the easiest phone I've ever used to sync with Outlook has been (gasp) the iPhone. Perfect syncing, no funny formatting of the names, it just works. Am I using the iPhone? Well, no. All the great syncing in the world can't make it ring louder or fix the lame messaging. Still using a Razr V9 (which actually syncs up with Outlook via Motorola Phone Tools pretty well).
