Guide by unknown:
| Code: | XP SP2 USERS:
I had a hell of a time getting p2kman, PST, and MPT working on XP. If you're having trouble too, give these a shot.
First, uninstall all previous versions of p2kman, PST, and MPT, even if they're the latest. I had problems with the newest versions.
Next, download the following:
(http://anton.tbg.ru/files/p2kman.zip) - p2kman
(http://-edited-.com) - PST v6.7 GENERAL, PST v6.7 Patch, and Mobile Phone Tools v3.11
P2kman Installation:
- Unzip the contents into whatever folder you want. No real setup needed.
PST Installation:
- Unrar, and run the setup. The setup will also try to install some MS security patches, but they'll fail since you're already running SP2. Ignore the errors. Reboot if necessary.
- Unzip the contents of the PST v6.7 patch to the PST program directory (\Program Files\Motorola\PST). Overwrite all existing files.
MPT Installation:
- Unrar, and run the setup. I had some errors about keys that couldn't be written to in the registry; just press ignore when they pop up (I had three or four). Reboot if necessary.
Phone Recognition:
- When you first plug your phone in, XP may or may not try to load different drivers for the phone. This may not happen until you have PST open in the background. When prompted by the Add Hardware wizard, choose the "Advanced" settings and specify the directory \Program Files\Motorola\PST for all devices. IT IS ABSOLUTELY VITAL that XP recognizes all the different devices for the phone. If you have everything set up correctly, the Device Manager will show a new top-level item called Motorola USB Device, and underneath are listed Accessories Interface, Data Logging MCU Interface, and Test Command Interface.
IF THE ABOVE DOESN'T WORK: At one point, XP would not recognize the phone when I plugged it in. The p2kman help file (\P2kman\docs\manual_eng.chm) has notes in its Installation section about how to manually clear out Moto USB devices from the registry (see the "If You Use Windows XP" section). The p2kman documentation insists you point to \p2kman\drv as the driver source instead of \Program Files\Motorola\PST, but I never could get XP to recognize those drivers. Keep XP pointed at \Program Files\Motorola\PST.
- Open PST if it isn't already (Start > Programs > Motorola PST > Phone Programmer). The phone should be detected, but it may not give you any verbal confirmation that it is (you'll know if it fails, though). As mentioned above, PST might need to be open in order for XP to start loading drivers.
- Leave PST open. Run p2kman.exe. In the lower left corner of p2kman, the status should read "Connected" immediately. If you haven't gotten XP to properly recognize the phone at this point (i.e., if something's wrong), p2kman will behave differently:
------ It will take a lot longer for p2kman to connect to the phone.
------ An error message will appear in the status window about a failed volume name.
------ Seems downloaded will not be written to your PC... p2kman will say that they're written, but they aren't. |

That's is how to install it PST ot MPT you need to direct win to the folder for drivers. with PST there were total of six driver and in wierd name so people may skip it by not sure or not knowing, and once you skip the driver it'll become very hard to get it back and get it right. I use to think XP service pack 2 is a problem but I have done upgrade my pc at home and at work with XP and 2000 pro , i install everyhting back with out a hick up.

i rebuild my XP PRO PC every couple of months with SP1&SP2 ... and never have problems with loading these programs as long as you don't allow windows to install it for you... do like above and just load drivers that come with the program

You find it by searching google. No one here can give you a direct link as its against forum rules.

I have downloaded and attempted to install p2kman, and PST and my V3i still isn't recognized. For some reason I cannot get my XP SP2 machine to install p2kman correctly. Has anyone been able to get this to work. I want to get rid of the annoying character messages on my unlocked phone. I have read all of the threads on how to change the seem, but I just can't get it to work. What am I missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
