Hello,
Can I buy a pre-paid SIM-card in the US and put it in my existing tri-band phone (can buy one for a good price from my european service provider).
It looks like everybody selling pay-as-you go in USA will force you to buy a phone from them.
Is it better buying a cheap phone in USA with a contract?
If somebody can answer I'll be really grateful.

My sisters-in-law used prepaid phones from England when they came to visit us in the US last Nov. As I recall the biggest problem for Chrissie was that she didn't have enough money on her phone, but the other sister did fine. I think Chrissie's problem was that she didn't know how to top up her phone here. (Nor did we) So You'd need to be sure to find that out before you come to the US.
When we went to Finland last March, we took our TMobile USA 6610s (triband) phones and had no trouble using them. Eric had signed us up for TMobile world class service (no charge) and we just accummulated minutes like normal. We have a national plan with no roaming and lots of minutes. We did get charged international roaming rates. So far as I know, nobody changed their sim cards.
Hope this give you enough info to get started with.

My phone is unlocked... How much does this Cingular Prepaid Sim card cost? When I buy it, I will get the phone number and it's good for how long if I donn't use it everyday?
