Hi, I've been with TMobile since Voice Stream. I want to buy a Nokia 7260 phone which TMobile doesn't offer. I am not looking to "stick" TMobile, just use that particular phone. My last "upgrade" I guess you'd call it was 33 months ago when I purchased a 6610. i'd still use it but it was stolen last Saturday. Does any one know about buying a phone elsewhere and taking it to TMobile to use it? THis may have been addressed but mostly I've found whiny comments about the providers and I'm not mad with TMobile icon_neutral.gif . I just don't want to be told incorrect info and settle for a phone I really don't want when I could buy the 7260 and use it.
Thanks a Lot
Kathy

If you get any phone not from authorized dealer, you have to make sure this phone is unlocked, so it can be used with any GSM career. Then you should be able to swap your sim card into your new phone without any problems.....

hope that helped...

Thanks. SO if I do take the 7260 to T Mobile to use, will I be able to use all of it's features? It sounds as though the carrier might "lock" out features that they don't want you to use or are not able to support? Since my sim card was with my stolen phone, I think I will need to buy a new sim card Right? icon_confused.gif

If I were you, I'd take some free phone from T-Mobile, (therefore getting a new sim) then swap sim card and check if all those features work.. that's your only choice (if they don't, you'll have to contact nokia or t-mobile for a future assistanse)...

but i think all of them will work...

by the way, don't forget to check these sites like wirefly.com and a1wireless.com, etc to get free phones, i don't think that your nokia blah blah is a good choice.... check those first, then do whatever you think is right....

I was in your exact same position not too long ago- I really like the Nokia 6820 but T-Mobile doesn't offer it and I'm under contract with T-Mobile. Furthermore I don't like any of the phones they offer right now- I like bar phones that look cool and have nice features, T-Mobile's are either cheap-o fall apart bars (Samsung 225, Nokia 6010) or weird lookin ones (the other Nokias).

So I bought the 6820 on Ebay at a very fair price and had no trouble unlocking it, but the thing wouldn't charge. Because I didn't get the phone from T-Mobile, it wasn't covered under warranty, and I'm now in the process of trying to get my money back because Nokia will want $110 minimum to fix this phone (this was after sending it to a local repair shop who couldn't fix it).

All I'm trying to say is, after my bad experience I'm not going to get a phone that isn't supplied by my provider, for warranty reasons if nothing else, and I would recommend you do the same. I'm just going to tough it out with my delapidated 3595 until T-Mobile finally offers something that I like!

Good luck...

Well, I went ahead and "up-graded" to the 6010 and it's fine. Not fancy but when I honestly evaluated what I needed out of a phone, I basically want a phone that works as a phone with good reception, triband for when we visit family overseas and if possible a radio. I had to skip the last item. We have a really nice digital camera and I can always pick up a cheap radio to carry.
I did find a place called mobilebee.com but don't know a thing about them. They claim to have phones with TMobile plans. I was going to check the forum for info regarding that company. Thanks for your story. At least it validated I did the right thing by staying with TMobile phones.

Cool...just wanted to make sure you knew that the 6010 is actually a dual-band phone and will not work outside of the U.S. and Canada.
