I've read the replys to the questions about putting more than one number under one name...but it's still not working for me. The phonebook is sorted by name, primary contacts are viewed, etc. I still have several people listed twice. Would anyone have a clue to why its still not working?
Secondly, whats the difference in storing the numbers on the SIM card or the phone?

Storing to SIM vs to Phone. Not much of a difference some more details under store to phone. The real advantage come in for me when I swapped phone with a friend. I relize then that store to SIM wa better for that situation. Then later I bought a second SIM 1 for work in US and one for work in UK. For that the store to phone was important because when i needed a number not on that SIM card it was not there. Dealt with both

Yeah, that's how it is on my phone. However, the same person is still there twice...What I do is go to the phonebook, menu button, [new], [phone number], I fill out the name and number, store to [SIM], scroll down and click on [...MORE...], and then it takes me back to the two choices of [phone number] and [email address], so i click on [phone n umber] which gives me a whole new set of lines (No., Store To:, and Speed No.), so i punch in the second number i want under that persons name, press [done]. I sitll get two different entries for the same person...am I doing anything wrong?

It seems you are saving it to your sim as well. If so, you will have duplicate contact listings.

Is it possible to view phonebook entries only even when you have numbers stored on your SIM card?
e.g. I want to use my V551's phonebook but for now do not wish to delete entries off my SIM card, however I do not wish to see my SIM card entries.

You will see both entries stored in phone and sim. You will need to delete one or the other.
Try backing up the entries with p2ktools or mobile phone tools.
