Hi can someone help me out with this please?
i've installed a whole ocean of SW in an attempt to read/write to my T721 phone with no success. someone who has 98se and can read/write to a 720 series phone please would you go to device manager and tell me
names and versions of drivers for "motorola phone T72x"
i have many versions of all different drivers on my disk, but no way to know which are the right ones for my system.
do the following:
Control Panel-> System-> Device manager
the phone device is probably under "other devices"
select: "motorola [phone] [t720]"->properties->driver->driver file details
you'll see a list box that usually looks something like this:
C:\win{dows|dows98|98}\system[32]\drivers\XXXXXX.YYY
C:\win{dows|dows98|98}\system[32]\drivers\XXXXXX.YYY
C:\win{dows|dows98|98}\system[32]\drivers\XXXXXX.YYY
C:\win{dows|dows98|98}\system[32]\drivers\XXXXXX.YYY
click on each line above, then look below at the "File Version:" spec.
what i need are the XXXXXX.YYYs with thier version numbers.
if anyone can do that you would put an end to my tribulations. so far i've spent at least 30-35 hours trying to do this and i think i'm pretty close now.
thanx anyone

You are getting to technical for an Old_fool like me to understand, but i'll tell you this much, driver are in your software just need to get to it. Sample if you are using MPT then install driver manualy and point it to your mpt folder sample C;\program\mpt\inf. If you already let window auto installed generic driver for you (that 's why is don't work) then just do modem update and choose advance option to allow you to manualy install it. Then once again point it to your mpt folder. This Fone is too old now like me so don't try to use the newest verson of software it's may not work. If you tell me what exactly would you like to do with that fone we will take care of it one at the time ok

here's the routine i go through every time:
1. someone tells me "get THIS file. that's all there is to it."
2. i DL THE software that's supposed to work
3. go to device manager and remove the "motorola phone t720" device that i tried to install last time and doesn't work, from the system
4. unzip THE software. automatic install, manual install, it doesn't matter. it don't work. every time i point windoze to the directory that's supposed to have the correct drivers there, i get "the specified location does not contain information about your hardware" or "windows was unable to locate a device driver in the specified location". absolutely without fail. MPT, PST, P2K, Smartmoto, whatever, nothing works. then i open up the directory where the INF files are. right click, context menu->install. nothing happens. no matter what i do, windoze won't recognize any of the install files, and i have every install file, every driver, every version, ever written for the 720 phone.
i've spent at least 45 hours or so (i mean literally 45 hours) in search of the Holy Grail. no luck so far.
i want to upload and download stuff to the phone. no way. upload and download? HA! windoze can't even see the device. see the device? HA! windoze won't even attempt to read any of the myriad installation files that i asked it to read. that's why i want someone to just tell me the exact name and version of the file that's supposed to be the right one.
thanks, mike

Here is the ood ball but i have to do this last year for 98se torecognized my fone modem and driver. Fone plug in goto device manager and in the bottom there is a punch of usb driver and stuff delete them all, then reboot with fone plug in by now window will try to install those thing back and that would foce it to see your modem.
BTW i fogot to ask you did you have the MPT 1.23 core program install if not this could be a problem

no i have MPT 1.00 of course it don't work. but i did manage to solve the first problem. W98 wouldn't even read the install file because the registery was reporting the wrong hardware ID for the phone and W was looking for an install file with the same erronius HID. so i corrected the registry. now it will read the install files but i don't know which file to tell it to read.
