Guys -
There have been several topics on this, none of them answered to my satisfaction, so I'd like to bring it up again, but with some more detail around the problems I'm having.
People with the same problem, please don't post in here with "I'm having the same problem please help"... someone will reply if they know... they won't reply if they don't. Thanks.
I loaded the "Easy Studio" software, and it worked on my home PC for about 4 minutes. I then discovered this forum and found it was the wrong software for my E800; I therefore loaded the EasyGPRS software from Samsung on my works laptop and the manual (which appears to be half a manual). After loading, I set it to connect via Infra red and it connected to my phone. When it got to the messages section it crashed the program. I deleted all my messages, now it comes up with "Cannot load messages" and continues when you press OK.
The loading process seems to complete OK, and I can access my phone's address book etc without problems. I can even send new text messages with it. What I can't do is use the "File Manager" or any of the transfer utilities such as "Melody to phone" or "Image to phone". All those options are greyed out in the menus. The last option I can't use (although I don't know if it works with the E800 anyway) is "Melody Composer".
The manual and the Help are useless and don't appear to contain any "Troubleshooting" tips.
Does ANYONE know if there's some setting or registry key or something I have to change to make this awful software work?
Thanks

OK.... now I'm confused.
I see loads of people getting great help here. So I post, in clear English, with as much info as possible about my problem.
Nothing.
Not a flaming sausage.
Someone asks me for MY help and I give it freely.
Not even a flaming THANK YOU.
My problem? Ignored.
What a great forum.
Thanks a bunch guys.

OK... for those of you having trouble with Samsung phones, cables and software... There is a new version of Easy Studio (and Easy GPRS) out there.
The E800 requires this new version; and works best either via IrDA (234,000bps) or via an OFFICIAL Samsung cable.
To get the software, go to http://www.samsungmobile.com/ and select the "Phone" menu, followed by "Manuals and Software". Select your 'phone model from the drop-down at top right. Download the software and manual from the box displayed. Install "PIMS and File Manager" for the E800. When you get into the software, select "File, Setup" and select the port you're using to connect and try various speeds (start from the highest speed and work down) and then click OK... when it works it will download the stuff from the phone. To transfer images and sounds to and from the 'phone, click "Tools, File Manager". Bear in mind the following rules:
1. You can only upload MID and MMF ring tones to the E800. It will only allow you to do this into the "Sounds\My Sounds" folder.
2. You CANNOT upload into the "Photos" folders, only the "Images" folder.
3. You CANNOT use photos uploaded to the phone's "Images" folder as "Caller ID's" - it must be a photo taken with the camera or already provided with the phone.
Happy mobiling!
