I bought two mps 220 from best buy jan2 2005-- they told me i could get insurance for the phones from cingular and they even verified that when they called to sign me up. now i see on cingulars web site they dont cover this phone. i went to best buy last nite and the cell phone representative (who also has this phone) said we have insurance until i had him call cingular. they confirmed that this phone is not covered. when i bought these phones i was assured i would be covered or i would never have selected the phones. now ive been charged the service fee for the insurance and cingular says they will refund the fees. i think that i have been misreprsented and i would like to file a class action suit against them. if this sounds familiar and you are also upset. reply to me and lets see if we can do something

If I read your message correctly, your beef isn't with Cingular but with Best Buy. They are the ones that said that this phone is covered by insurnace with Cingular, not Cingular.

actually really not best buy because they call in the deal and tell them the type of equipment the person is buying and then cingular asks the salesperson if the customer would like options such as insurance and then cingular adds it on the bill. they know the phone but add it on the bill anyway. and then if you make a claim all they want to do is return your premiums that you paid in so far and not the phone. that is why im upset. as i would not have selected cingular without insurance on my phones.

for future reference, don't buy anything from Worst Buy. they do not know anything and could care less about you. sorry to say, but i'd have to agree with mort. cingular provides the service, they really don't know what phone you are using, i.e. your type of phone doesn't show up your bill. are you sure the worst buy person conveyed exactly what you wanted? (i have severe doubts about them if you haven't noticed). they'll say anything to get you to buy something expensive, hope you didn't buy a service plan from them as well.

no service plan from best buy but i did see the salesperson speak to the operator and she asked what phone im using. if they didnt know what phone you were using you can say you lost any phone how do they verify what type of phone you have if you report it lost or stolen.

How do you know that the salesperson at Best Buy was actually talking to someone at Cingular and not someone at Best Buy? In fact, for all you know, seeing the salesperson talking on the phone, she may have been talking to her mother.

mort i was there and i know she was talking to someone from cingular as she was asking me questions as she was on the phone with cingular. the girl at best buy has no reason to lie; people are lined up there buying phones. its was either me or someone else she was busy and so are they. this girl is a very nice salesperson and actually she has been going out of her way since i told her (and her co worker who also has the same phone and has
been paying insurance every month like me) to try to get to the bottom of this thing. they are nervous cause they sold many people the same phone with the idea that they are insured. and when i say nervous i dont mean thatg they ehink that they did anything wrong, they are nervous bcause they know that people are getting screwed period. and the problem will become much greater when a person makes a claim and find out that cingular wont replace it. that will be a big poroblem. i dont know why you are trying to put the blame on best buy as i have never and i spend thousands of dollars a year in that store had any reason to complain. i love that store.
hey mort answer me a question here. why are you responding to this message. do you work for cingular or have you had any problems with best buy and that is why you are venting here. cause what im looking for here is to find people like myself who are in this same situation and want to make what we thought we were represented to given to us. we want our phones to be covered with the insurance that cingular has been taking from me. and another one of your comments was that they dont know what kind of phone we have. well im gonna tell you that they do as my son had a warranty problem with his phone that was actually a replacement phone that he got because the original one also had a defect. so when he called cingular they were confused why his phone serial number wasnt the same as the number on the phone that was originally bought at best buy. well thats about it as im very pasionate about this and i can just go on and on but ill probably lose your attention after a while. have a wonderful day and god bless

I have Worked at best buy, The most important thing that is drilled in to the employees is the sale...NOTHING ELSE matters.... Now on to your problem...there are a couple of holes, for example, you say"as my son had a warranty problem with his phone that was actually a replacement phone that he got because the original one also had a defect. so when he called cingular they were confused why his phone serial number wasnt the same as the number on the phone that was originally bought at best buy"...If cingular, or lock/line (the company that provides the insurance) made the replacement, they would not have been confused, the serial/IMEI/ESN are on file...when either of them replace your phone it is updated.
Best Buy is a "AUTHORIZED RESELLER" of Cingular service. They are in no way other connected to Cingular, except to sell the service. They, much like any other non Corporate sales person, can tell you whatever they want, also at AR's you may be subject to additional fees and terms (BB is one of these) When BB calls in, they are calling the BB Call center, not actually the Cingular call center...like I said, I worked there.
You may want to read the small section regarding Arbitration in your contract, before you attempt your suit.

you say you worked there at best buy, what dept? because i dont think you really know what your talking about to tell you the truth. i did indeed see the person talking to cingular. i actually spoke to them when she put the original order in as i had a question to askl and they asked if i wanted insurance for the phone. and also if you WORKED there you would know they have a wireless representative who is there to assist who works for a subsiderary. he is not paid from them. he also has the same phone and he told me that it was insured and when i told him what i found out he said not to worry because he had the phone for 8 months and has been paying the insuranc premium and his phone is covered. then he called cingular and was very suprised also. so he was suppose to get back to me after he speaks to his supervisor. so there are no holes in my story and im not making this up

I have to agree with yeags and ndogg. Worst buy is a reseller and u should NEVER trust anything they say when selling u stuff. They are after ONLY the sale and after the sale, if u have any problems, they will just tell u to go to the Cingular Corporate store and they'll take care of it. Uhhh negative. I work at a Cingular Corporate store and I see it ALL the time. We just send them right back to the store cuz they are not our problem. They are Best Buy's problem. If people just want to go to a reseller or agent store just so they can get some cheap aftermarket accessories thrown in the deal (which most likely wont last longer than 2 months) or save a few bucks on the phone, then u get what u pay for. POOR SERVICE!! As far as the people who are helping the reps on the phones, they get a certain amount of commission on the phones when the rep sells them. Trust me! I've also worked for Circuit City, Best Buy, Good Guys awhile back and they're ALL the same. They just want your sale cuz cell phones are a high profit sale for the company. As far as the MPX 220, they've never offered insurance on the phone and it just go to show u how much the guy helping the Best Buy rep knows. He never even knew they didnt offer insurance on the phone. Nice training they provide them huh? Also, if ur ever considering the Razr V3, Treo 650, or Blackberry, they dont offer insurance on those either.
