I've seen a lot of posts explaining how to do this, but is it possible on the x220? I have NOT been able to do it yet, and I've tried everything. All the restrictions I've read about so far don't exist, but the one of not being able to use MP3's is apparently true. Something seems very wrong about that, a friggin SMARTPHONE that can double as an MP3 player, and can't use MP3's for ringtones?? That's absurd! The ONLY formats I've been able to use is mid, and (now get ready) WAV! Give me a friggin break.. wtf? Wav ringtones work like a charm and can be any length you want... wtf? Something is really wrong here, if anyone can offer a reasonable explaination for why they did this, I would appreciate it.. Better yet, how can I make mp3's work?
I read a suggestion on changing the extension from mp3 to mid. Doesn't work.. mp3 to wav? Doesn't work.. It sees them , but only play a error tone.. And Java games? Don't get me started on that one please..

HELP!

Yes, you are right, it does play mp3's as ringtones, but ONLY for the main ringtone I discovered.. For some reason, the other tone alerts can only use mid or wav.. I'm sure this must be a bug, it doesn't make sense to only allow the main ringtone to use mp3 and not the rest.
As far as games, you can install all games/apps made for smartphones as long as it is not 'application locked'. This should not be the case any longer, Orange discovered that it was not a good idea.
The only problem now is the inability to install any more Java games on it. Although it comes with 2 Java games preinstalled, there is no way to install more.. After much research I found the reason. Microsoft developed an app called 'Redmond Decaf' which is the Java manager for smartphones. It was supposed to be released the beginning of 2004 and on sale for about $10.
Unfortunately, Sun would not license the app for distribution in any way except preinstalled in the phone or device.. This leaves us all screwed when it comes to Java games.. Althouch there is another method (called MIDP), It's not supposed to be very compatable from what I hear. It was developed by IBM for their Mitac device. We all need Redmond Decaf, since it designed for Windows Mobile, but looks like Sun is preventing MS from releasing it.....

ok, if you guys would RTFM(read the f-ing manual), you wouldn't be having this problem. What you do is open up the ActiveSync app on your computer, then hit the explore button. From there you open Storage, then Application Data, then Sounds. You save your file in Sounds. Then you sync back to your phone and voila! You've got mp3 ringtones. Wasn't that complicated, eh?

You guys? Well except for the last reply, we already knew that. The problem is, only the main ringtone can play mp3's, the other alert tones can't see the mp3's.. This is what throws many people off, if you first try something other than the main ringtone to play an mp3, it won't work. I did a lot of mp3 editing to try and make a compatable mp3 tone, only to find out it was working the whole time, but I wasn't selecting them using the main ringtone...
The phone has many bugs, we are gradually discovering them. I have also noticed the battery contacts are flaky. I love the phone, but I have definately noticed a few negatives. The weak sound output is another annoying problem, especially with mp3's. Let's face it, the speakers in cell phones are designed for voice range only, and getting hi fidelity is tough to do. The speaker does a nice job of reproducing highs, but lows are a waste of energy, you can never reproduce it with these devices. For the phone ringer to be easily heard over normal noise levels, you need a nice loud midi file.. Can't wait for Windows Mobile SP1...

Well I just read theres a recall on these phones so if you haven't modded to seriously and the speaker volume bugs you....trade it in and get a new one when there re-released. Otherwise you can just cut the song to a higher bandwith and push it over with MPT and USB cable.
