Hi all,
I've been browsing the forums for about an hour and am really relieved to find people who sound like they know what they are talking about- especially since the T-Mobile customer service folks don't seem to.
I've recently (10 days ago) signed up with T-Mobile in the Los Angeles area ("excellent coverage" on their map). We're on a family plan- mine a V600 phone and my husband a Sidekick II. No issues with the Sidekick.
With the V600, though- it worked fine for the whole 10 days, getting a strong signal everywhere, including in my apartment. Yesterday, however, it stopped picking up the T-Mobile network- I can browse for networks manually and sometimes find it, but cannot get registered on the network for service. In a 24 hour period, I've been able to register the phone onto the network three times, for a total of about 10 minutes each time, before it drops. Each time I have not had full connectivity- first time I was apparently on the network but could not make calls (showed full signal), second time I could make calls but not receive text messages, third time I had calls and text but no download access.
To troubleshoot, I removed my SIM and placed it in the Sidekick- it worked immediately. I called TMobile customer service, and was told that they couldn't guarantee a signal inside buildings, and that there was nothing they could do. My question to you all is- if I previously had a strong signal in my apartment, and suddenly cannot pick up the network, period- AND the SIM works in another phone- doesn't this all say that the phone is defective?
Any suggestions are appreciated. I'm just trying to get this sorted out as soon as possible before the grace period expires.
THANKS!
-Gianna

Take the phone back. V600 are known to give problems. That's why Cingular and AT&T dropped it.

Yeah if you are within your 14 day grace period the dealer will do almost anything for you. He will exchange the phone for you. I wouldnt be too worried about picking up another signal because tmobile has North American Roaming Agreements with most of the big competitors, att/cingular etc... The only thing you need to worry about is your tmobile to mobile min (that comewith every familytime plan) will not work while you are not on a Tmobile tower. Your calls to you husband will just come out of your day time min (unless on at Night or on the weekend obviously)
*if your on a promo plan with nights.
Im sure that most of the reps at tmobile know what they are talking about. If you knew more then them you wouldnt be calling right.

I'm sure most of them do, too. Or at least I hope so. I just got one of the bad apples last night, I guess. He told me (amongst other bits) that I should just switch back to Nextel since "the signal no longer penetrates the walls of your building"!!
In any case, I went to a (different) dealer this morning to test the phone and the problem is with the phone per the T-Mobile rep- so the guy I spoke with in customer care was wrong. I'm going back to the dealer who sold it to me tonight to exchange it.
Can anyone recommend a more reliable model? I've seen an awful lot of complaints on the V600.
Thanks again.

The Samsung D415 seems to be great, from my view! And yes, please don't go with the V300.. Might also want to ck out the Sharp, haven't known of any problems with it.

Yeah if your looking for something similar to the v600 go with the sharp (no bluetooth though ) the D415 is sweet but its going to cost you prob like 100$ more then what you paid for the v600. Both good phones though and good recommendation TEX.

I've had my V600 for about a month now. Wicked Phone never had the slightest of problems besides it takes for EVER to CHARGE (like over night!!!). Wish it charged quick like my samsung X426's. Oh Well Still has awsome features.

V600's are a nice looking phone, it is hard to say, you either love 'em or hate 'em depending on your issues with them..
So Samsung, "Rogers"? is that NE if you would rather not ans that's ok, just curious...
