So... I'm about to drop my Samsung flip phone on T-Mobile and get a Nokia 6620 for negative one cent from www.buy.com after rebates? (Can't beat that huh?) 2-year contract required.

I'm going to get a Cingular 40 dollar a month plan which is plenty of minutes for me. According to the buy.com site there is a 19.99 unlmited internet and a bazillion messages data plan which sounds like a fantastic deal. I went to the Cingular store today and they apparently changed the 19.99 plant to something much more limiting just the other day. Looks like the changed it on the Cingular website too which sucks. I wanted to use bluetooth as a roaming modem for my iBook and I'll easily go over the limited 'special' 19.99 plan now.

BUT... according to the Buy.com site this unlimited MEdia Works plan is still available. Do I sign up when I sign up for my 39.99 plan through them. If Cingular says the plan changed to something less, do you think if I bitch and say "well that's not what it said online" then they'll cave? Are they somewhat binding to old posted rates if that's what I sign up for? I've sweet talked AT&T and T-Mobile into stuff before and they always caved. Do you think Cingular will let me do the 19.99 unlimited thing if I claim that's what I signed up for. Is it somewhat binding? Will they say 'tough shit' it's not a contract plan's change.

Would like to know because this could mean 59.99 a month for a basically unlimited plan vs. 100 bucks a month or so...

thanks,
C

Are you saying the $19.99/month media works package with unlimited media net has changed? There is a limit of 3mb?

If that is the case, I am glad I didn't cancel it. icon_biggrin.gif

See.... that's why I'm going to sign up for the buy.com thing tonight even though I have one more month on my T-mobile contract.... So they can't change the plan once you've signed up for it right?? I guess that was my basic question.

I guess I'm answering my own question b/c my basic experience with phone companies in the past is if there's a discrepancy they'll try to keep you happy rather than lose you, even if they theoretically have your balls in a vice with a contract. But these data plans are not really a contract per se are they?? They're month to month right?

Yes, this feature is month to month and you can cancel at anytime. Furthermore, the feature is Cingular and not the retail store policy. Buy.com may have misled you or have not updated cingular services.

Good luck in conviencing cingular to offer you the old feature.

Just ordered a 39.99 plan plus 19.99 "unlimited" MEdia Works. That's fine. If www.buy.com "lied" to me, I'll convince Cingular to give it to me. Ordered my first cell phone ever through an internet deal and then AT&T told me it had changed on their plan after first bill... talked them into essentially the same deal. If you put up a mild amount of protest (in the beginning of the contract) I think they're very happy to compromise to risk losing a customer.

What's the 'grace period' with Cingular? 14 days or 30? Can always threaten then with dropping out.

Meanwhile 59.99 a month for theoretically unlimited phone use and intenet use (2x dialup on my laptop, could theoretically drop my cable modem, nah.... not unless I lose my job)-- da bomb. Plus, my company has a discount policy with Cingular so I should be able to save at least another 8 or 10 bucks off the 59.99 too. Hit them with that next month. icon_smile.gif

The Grace period for Cingular is 30 days,If you decide to cancel service within the 30 day period, you have to return the phone ,the box it came in, and all the accessories. They will only charge you for the service time you used. But other than that you are released from the contract and all obligation.
I hope this helps answer your icon_question.gif .
