What is the range of this handset's bluetooth capability? I am buying a dongle with a 100m range, will the T610 work up to this range?
Thanks,

Well, manual says "you should keep your T610 within a range of 10 meters from your bluetooth device"
That means the BT on T610 is not Class 1 like the dongle you want to buy.
So, are the 2 BT class compatible? I have no idea. I'm afraid what will happen is:
- from your PC to T610: you can go up to 100 meters (class 1 spec)
but
- from T610 to PC: it will be 10 meters max....
since network protocols are usually check response from the other party when communicating, the PC will endlessy wait for an answer from the T610 until time out.

Had a quick look on blutooth.org, this post says it all:
"The maximum range is just 10m. Even though the class 1 has a range of 100m, the range is limited by the range abiltiy of class 2 which is only 10m.
This is because the class 2 device is unable to detect the class 1 device if the distance between the two is more than 10m. True enough that the class 1 will be able to detect the class 2 device but because of the nature of Bluetooth (and all the other active wireless technology available), a communication link can only be establish when the two are able to detect the presence of each other. "
Sorry, you'll have to get a class 2 dongle instead and save money

PS just ordered my dongle...........
Belkin Bluetooth Adapter Usb 1.1 10m For Desktop And Notebook
and this is one of the reviews of it on the site i got it from...
| Quote: | I bought this product to connect my Sony Ericsson T610 to my PC. The software provided by SE does not work easily with provided belkin drivers, but with a little patience it does work with a few setting changes.
This is a bargain product when compared with the SE alternative, a USB cable costing nearly £40!!
This bluetooth adapter does the job well |
It cost me £25 inc. UK P&P. If you want to know where i got it from just PM me

Not bad indeed...
My dongle is a sort of *noname* brand bought in Hong-Kong...
Very cheap HK$250 which is around US$30...
It works fine. Only drawback is that I can't manage to get the "My Bluetooth Places" in WinXP Pro SP1.
It seems to only work with XTNDConnect Blue Manager.
BT is nice ..... once you make it work. It can be real tricky to set up.
Good Luck!
