So I'm on my second V551...I can't seem to get one that doesn't give feedback on the headsets I'm trying to use.
The feedback sounds like the crackling feedback that occurs when you have a phone too close to an unsheilded speaker, like an am/fm alarm clock or something of that nature.
I've tried several different (wired) headsets...a motorola brand one, several plantronics, 2 jabras, and a body glove and a belkin. They are all doing the same thing on both phones.
Is anyone else having this sort of issue?
Cingular support seems to think it's my fault somehow...even though they can hear it when it happens when I'm on the phone with them...

There has been no compliants using a wired or wireless headset. I am using a HS810 BT wireless headset with no problems.
I suggest you bring it back to a store and ask them to test it with their headset. It could be a phone issue and not the headsets that you have tried.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try the Cingular store again. This is slowly driving me insane...cause this is such a great phone, and I seem to be the only person in the country having this issue.

Alright, I'm on my THIRD V551, and it's doing the same thing. I talked to Motorola Support, and they said it seems to be an unresolved issue with the phone, and that "most consumers use a headset only sparingly" and suggested then Cingular support told me to "go and buy a bluetooth headset" which will eliminate the problems.
That kinda ticked me off...but whatever - has anyone ever seen this happen with any other Motorola Phone? I'm thinking about buying a V620...but if the same thing is going to go on, I'm just going back to Nokia...

Are you testing the headset in different areas and not just one place? It maybe your surroundings that is causing the problem. Ex. powersupply, generators, microwave dishes. I am talking about huge ones outside your backyard.

Yeah, it does it pretty much anywhere - car, jacket pocket, work, my living room, my girl's house...
But I did get it fixed. I found a Nokia 6230 on the cheap today, unlocked it, and popped in my sim and my old headset from the 3200, and voila, the feedback problem is gone.
It's a pain in the ass, because I liked the phone, I liked the features, but it just couldn't be used with a normal headset. I wish it was just a defect on one phone or whatever, but oh well...back to Nokia, where I never should have strayed from in the first place.
duceduc, thanks for you replies. See ya on the flip side (or the nokia section).
