I had a Verizon family plan with 2 numbers in 2 area codes. When I switched to Cingular I was told that I could port both numbers to Cingular into individual plans, but I could not have both numbers together on a family plan. The reason I was told was that the 2 numbers were in "different Cingular markets" and could not be on one family plan.
This is completely annoying, either one of us has to give up their #, or we have to get 2 separate plans, or we stay with Verizon. Every support person I spoke to at Cingular was unable to figure out how to port both #'s into the same family plan. Anybody have any experience successfully doing this?

When I first signed up I asked 3 different Cingular employees whether I could port both numbers and these are the answers I got in the order I got them:
No
Yes
No
Pretty confusing huh? And the worst part is that I am fast discovering that reception on Verizon is a lot better than Cingular so I may switch back - after having lost a phone number.

Cingular requires all lines on the same account to be in the same market. Nothing can be done to change this.

Is this the case only with sub-national plans? Or is it the case with the Nationwide plan as well? Fortunately, the Bal-Wash Market includes the little sliver of WV (Franklin) for my third number on the Nat'l FamilyTalk Plan.

sweethoney is correct in this. Cingular has seperate markets to seperate it's users / network / and customer service calls (everyone does this in some way). You know how it works, you call from pa to customer service and you get someone across the country picking up the phone. As far as the phone transfer thing goes, you have to either get a dif. number, keep the numbers but get 2 plans, or one of you needs to loose the a number. Sorry, just how things work.
