Ive spent 3 hours trying to use the email client on the T310....
Ive tried 2 different Pop3 servers (my dads connection and a free pop3 server called hotpop.com ) but when i try to either send/recieve i get a connecting message, then a finding server message, and then a server not found message. The email isnt sent of course. Im really in the dark here. Ive confirmed the server settings and the passwords/usernames but they are OK.
I can use the data account i got (Vodafone GPRS) to browse wap normally...
Can someone give me some pointers here?
Thank You

I am trying to use the GPRS to connect to my mail server and when i do so, it keeps trying to find teh mail server and then it reports the same error as urs. i tried to get help from the service provider but they were too dumb to udnerstand the prob. i have no idea why shld this error occur as the mail comes via the Tcp/ip POP3 protocol.

Make sure that you use the right data account to connect with GPRS. Some operators use one for WAP, one for MMS and one for all other internet connection. The only difference are usually different APN. They use diffent APNs because they use diffente billing for diffent services.
E.g. some operators charge you a fixed amount of money for a MMS and for WAP you'll pay for how many MB you have uploaded and downloaded.
If you have trouble look on you operators homepage. They usually have faq were you can get help to set you data account. I have not had any problems using the mail client on my T300 or my T310.

hi
i understand that. but logically, if the phone is able to resolve a name such as wap.sonyericsson.com to ip address, then the dns and access to public ips must be available. by the way i am using the public ip addof my office email server which i can otherwise configure on my outlook exp client and access email using pop3. so dns shldnt be an issue. why the hell it doesnt connect ??

When you use the WAP APN you'll go through the WAP gatway and the gateway may stop POP and SMTP access. I know that some german operators stop every thing that is not WAP pages in there WAP gateway, so it could be that problem. So go to your operators homepage and do a search for e-mail setup.

the solution is simple:
to setup email, you have to configure the e-mail seperately from the WAP/GPRS accounts. Forget about them and act like they don't exist .
All you have to do is to create a new data-account, in which you setup the dial-up connection for the ISP, just like you would do on a normal PC.
then, use this data-account for sending and receiving emails. don't use the WAP or GPRS from your phone-company. Remember that it MAY not work due to restrictions on your subscription (like DATA-calls) since connecting to an ISP is treated like a data-call. therefore, you may be charged additionally for this.

Dredging up an old topic, I know, but I had the same problem up until today. I called my provider (Fido) to change my package, and wound up mentioning I was having problems connecting to my mail server for email (same problem as you).
The lady on the other end said that I wasn't set up for the "fast Internet access" (GPRS I imagine, I know nothing about cell tech.. and I thought I had GPRS access by default). She did something on Fido's end, and I got a text message saying I was set up. I switched from "Fido GPRS WAP" (profile sent via SE's WAP Configurator) to "Fido GPRS" (which previously didn't work as well) under "Connect Using" and voila, email works like a charm now!
Just my experience, and maybe that's your problem as well, thinking you have GPRS access when you really don't.

I experimented with so many options but none worked.
I finally settled with signing-up for a new e-mail account with www.netexplora.com and configured the settings on my 310.
The only problem with the netexplora website is that the bloody thing is in Spanish. That wouldn't be a problem when it is configured on the phone.
The IP address to set-up the account on the phone is 200.24.224.6

You cannot use "web-addreses" like pop3.telia.com.. you need to use an IP! You can probaby get it from your mail provider
