This weekend just gone i decided to get a T610 on an Upgrade through Orange. I live in the West Midlands and here is the situation:

2x local Phones4u = Out of stock
2x local carphonewarehouse = Out of stock
2x local The Link = Out of stock
local Orange dealer = Out of stock
Orange website = Out of stock
Various websites = Back Order

What has changed between a couple of days ago with everyone having stock and the moment I decide to get one no one on earth has one?
There seems to be something a bit dodgy going on as I can't believe that everyone has just decided to buy one at the same time as me.
Anyone else have any ideas? Technical problems?

Every other model of mobile phone was in stock in all shops... icon_mad.gif

If you are in the UK it's because of offers they recently had on the phone, started by O2 i think where you got it free on any tariff. I assume other networks followed the O2 suit and thus everyone bought em up like crazy (ie. like me icon_biggrin.gif )!!

Russ, it's one of those things in life that just happens - Ya know, you look around for something, and you see what you want, and it's there ready and waiting. You wait a few days to get it, and then when you're finally ready (and excited), it's gone. However, I do find it absolutely amazing that it's out of stock EVERYWHERE in your area. That really is some bad luck.

If it's any consolation, I tried to buy the same phone last week, and I simply couldn't get it in my area either. But I only tried one shop (Carphone Warehouse), and the guy who served me gave me the impression that he would find it hard to even 'order' one. So there seems to be a serious stock shortage at the moment.

Joelio is right, there has been some great deals, FREE deals, to get the T610. Best I've seen (from quickly browsing) is T-Mobile's 'Everyone 200' where you get the phone for free, paying £29 per month, with 200 free inclusive mins. Not bad in my opinion.

Nah - my O2 deal was better - ANY tariff!

I got it on leisure time plus:

100 free txts/month
50 free anytime any network mins/month
500 free off peak O2/landline mins/month

and for the first three months all of that is DOUBLED so i get 200 txts etc.

I've already used all of the free minutes in a month though icon_sad.gif icon_confused.gif

Whats up with these plan you people have icon_question.gif I have T-Mobile and for 48 bucks a month- I get 600 peak minutes, unlimited nights and weekends- 800 text messages and Internet. I gladly say I use up everything except the nights and weekends- Without a job, averaging 5,000 minutes a month (including going online from my laptop) is pretty amazing! Why not try T-Mobile? icon_wink.gif

MY GOD! That's like £30/mo!!!!!!!!!!! That's excellent! Sadly there are no contracts that good over here, possibly because us Brits are all suckers and don't moan about the prices being too high! Plus they can afford to charge the high costs as we are (obviously) willing to pay it! Me thinks there is some syndication going on in the UK Telecom industry icon_surprised.gif

The networks in Ireland are even worse. The T68i is only available on O2 contract for €400, which is about $400. The t610 isn't even available, let alone free. Generally speaking, on all the networks, the cheapest phone with a camera is €250, contract. Plus, there's some nice price fixing going on. Within the same week, both Vodafone and O2 increased the cost of an "international" text message from €0.11 to €0.25. Coincidence? Yeah right. They both cite "rising costs". Arse! Its 160 characters going through a tube that carries millions of gigs of data! You'll recall that a few years ago, the British parents of these companies (Vodafone and BT Cellnet (now O2)) had their offices raided by the European Court of Justice on suspicion of price fixing.. I think they found some evidence to prove it too...

And Ireland has the second highest concentration of mobile users in Europe (second to Finland). Yet, little or no price advantage. Those of you in the UK, you're doing much better than us, breathe a sigh of relief!
