HOW-TO: Remove preinstalled pics, themes, ring tones, etc. - 12.5 second trick

Works on T300 (tested myself) And is claimed to work on the t68i dont quote me on anyother fones and dont hold me responsible if it goes wrong.

The following may be dangerous for your phone im not sure, this technique work extremely well for me and allowed me approx 625kb of free space compared to the 275kb i had before. It removes the following features: Network customisations (for example on my phone it had a T-Zone icon instead of the normal wap icon and T mobile start up and shut down logos instead of sony ericson ones.) it also removes preinstalled themes and images and sounds which also take up a lot of space, but deleting them normally either doesnt free up space or takes too much time or just isnt possible. Heres how todo.

1) goto settings -> master reset -> reset all, it will then ask you to enter your security code. as you finish entering the code count 12 - 13 seconds (12.5 secs exact) for best effects.

2) when you get to 12 - 13 seconds remove the battery quickly and then wait 30 seconds.
It is important the battery is removed on 13.

When i tried this at first went to 13 seconds but it didnt remove the tmobile icons and one of the tmobile logos, however on a 2nd attemt i accidentally removed at approx 10seconds which removed all the tmobile stuff and all themes everything there was more free space.

3) replace battery and allow for reboot, may take upto 60seconds this time

warning i dont kno if you can damage your phone doing this i suspect it may be possible to prevent the firmware from reloading if the is a bootsector which is not installed because the battery is removed to soon, this is a concern i had but im not sure how the T300 is built so i cant be sure if that idea is correct maybe someone else might kno

Thanks for the tip, I've been trying to clear all those stupid t-mobile pictures from the phone and it hasnt been working.

I don't think it damages the firmware because otherwise the phone would not function.

Will try it tomorrow, thanks again.

Ok please let me know how you got on with it, i found at first it didnt delete everythng, but the second time round i accidentally removed it after about 10seconds and even the Tzone icon went to the mobile internet icon so if your tmbile stuff doesnt all go try it at 10seconds Dan

I tried your tip and it works! I reset and removed the battery at 13 secs. Then I did it again at 10 secs. It deleted all the preinstalled sounds, themes and pics. It didnt delete any of my sms, pics, games or sounds. It deleted my bookmarks for wap though. My email was intact too. I had about 40k of free memeory before the reset, and after had 250k free! icon_razz.gif

i havent tried this yet but have a question and maybe someone can try it who tried it already.what i mean is if you do the 13 sec trick and the stuff is gone, if you do another master reset and let it go all the way. will the stuff come back to the phone. reason i am asking cause lets say the phone gets a little damaged and i want to return it cause its under warranty. i dont know if they check the phone but i would like all the stuff to be back on the phone so that they dont say i did it.

Success, icon_smile.gif

First master Reset left about one Sony Ericcson picture, some themes, and around 590K free, Next reset left a little above 600K free space.

Apparently im guessing there is a ROM memory of the phone which loads itself into the phones main memory upon a master reset. This trick probably prevents this from happening, and leaves you with the extra main memory. If you ever need to go back to factory specs, just reset again without unplugging the battery early and wham, the ROM fully copies itself into Main memory. Not a bad little trick I must say

One thing anyone attempting this might want to note before you try this is the T-zones ip adress in your wap profiles so you can use the internet features of the phone after the wipe. All my wap profiles were gone afterwards so i couldnt get onto t-zones, but i went the the support section on the sony-erriccson site and clicked on wap configuration and typed in my phone number and they sent the settings to my phone electronically.

That extra space will really help out

Thanks again dan
