Alright I want to get some tones and pictures onto my new Samsung X426. I bought a serial data cable and downloaded EasyGPRS.

Alright, so, now what do I do.

I don't know what I need to install/configure/setup because I am a newbie when it comes to phones and serial ports and EasyGPRS. Someone please help me get my phone setup!! Thanks!!

If you wish to post here, email me at arusht@accesswave.ca, or add me on msn arusht@gmail.com - either way is fine! Thanks

"Because I'm a newbie" is a lame line these days.

Install Easy GRPS and read the help notes on it, for a start.

Sorry for not being as educated as yourself. I have read the help file and have been searching countless hours on the internet- I do not know how to work this. I have tried everything and I need some help, therefore I posted.. If you are not willing to help please keep your thoughts to yourself because no where in this topic does it say "need smart ass comments". Thank You.

Thanks Man! Ok, im heading behind my computer now to check out what I did.. here we go.

Alright, so I think the port I used is called a COM port? alright so its plugged into the only port possible on the back of my compute (see picture), then i plugged it in to my phone then opened EasyGPRS and nothing happens, at the bottom it says Offline and no possible way to add tones/pics/or look at phone book. (Running XP Professional).

Thats about how far ive gotten

Although I have a different phone I am sooo glad I am not the only one with this problem. I have successfully downloaded easyGPRS 2.1.8 however when I connect the computer and phone by cable, my cell just beeps and the exterior LCD comes on. icon_sad.gif Could the problem be in the cable, it's nonOEM? I bought it off ebay and although it said it was compatible with my e316 the back of my silver cable reads "For SAM V200). icon_huh.gif
And yes, I have read the entire manual and gone through the programs help along with plugging in my cable to the available USB outlets in the back of my computer.
I'd greatly appreciate some help.

You must make sure that the COM Port that your cable is connected to matches the COM port configured in the easy GPRS software otherwise it will tell you that it is offline at the bottom. I should have installed a modem on your pc when you set up the software. Check and see what COM port that is on and then set the GPRS software to the same COM port. After you do that choose reload all in the GPRS software and see if it will connect with your Phone. That software will work for the X426/427 and E316/317 phones.

not sure if i asked this already, but oem or aftermarket cable? i have an oem cable and i have mine set to 'd/l' switch to flash/backup firmware. to upload pics/ringers/etc., i set the switch to 'data'. now, since you said that you have only one port in the back we can, by process of eliminiation, determine it's COM1 or COM2. now go to the application and go to FILE > SETUP

the option to change ports is there from the drop down box...choose com1 and restart application. if that doesn't work. change to com2 and restart app again. let me know what happens.

Alright, I have pretty much determined I only have 1 COM port, COM1 is the only option available and no other com ports are present on my mobo. So I made sure in setup it was set to COM1, and restarted and closed the application a few times- it maintained offline and i could not find any information at all, but when i closed the program i could here a beep from my phone which tells me its recognizing it somehow. Also i found it strang that when I plug it in it seems that the battery shows to be charging?? Odd,yes, even more odd, I do not have anything on my cable to switch between DL and flash, etc, I bought it off ebay for like 1.99 or something- I think its non-oem?

Okay, if you think the cable is the problem can you go to ebay and search for a cable that would work with the phone and post it?

Maybe my cable is fine, im not sure, but nothing is happening.

(Btw: Thanks for all your help!)
