Hi,
I know there is a lot of topics on this, I did search but Im sure some of my questions will be reposts - sorry in advance!
I've been looking around the forums about flashing and firmwares and all sorts - never really heard of it up till now.
I was wondering; http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/Unlocking/samsung.htm#fp
If I bought that would it unlock my phone to an unbranded phone so it will no longer be orange.. or will it just unlock it so other networks can use the phone, sorry if this sounds so newbish
If it doesn't change the firmware so it's unbranded whats the best action to take and can anyone give me advice/tips and what sort of cable I should buy.
Thanks in advance - any help appreciated !

u can get that pack ... its the cable u want most unlocking your phone wont debrand it but u can use other netwrks sims in it... to unbrand it flash it too
D500AIDK6_DK8_HW26 .. firmware this will get rid of that annoying bar on your screen... trust me the cable works and so does the firmware + u,ll need coronadownloader v3.2 for this takes around a hour to do ... did mine last night and its working fine

Hi
I too have an orange branded D500.
Had it liberated with an unlocking clip and everything works great except cant send or receive MMS with any other network except orange. (do have all the correct settings in too)
So if you are looking at different alternatives to unlocking you phone be weary of the clip method. Have been advised to flash my phone now.....
I dont know the first thing about flashing and firmware and am completely and utterly new to this too..... i have been looking on so many forums for advice and getting more and more confused, and too came across the flashing kit you mentioned and am deciding whether it is worth getting or not......... i am just really weary about downloading firmware off the internet......i dont know enough about what i am doing to risk it.....
do come back and post how you are getting on.....

its easier than you think....
i bought the serial cable
downloaded the firmware
downloaded the sgh-d500 downloader program
plugged in phone.
put the square 9v battery on the cable clips
on d500 downloader tick bun and tfs box and point it to yopur folder where you stored your firmware...
Hit start...wait for it to check stuff....
Hit 'Download' when prompted...
90 mins later it said finished.....
my D500 was no longer locked to orange...had no more orange menu bar or any other orange customisation on there....
all my files were still there
all my phone numbers etc still there...
Worked a treat!!!

Yes the mms and wap settings seemed fine...i could straightaway text and use the wap gprs.
One thing i forgot to mention was that my mms inbox messages were no longer there... that was the only thing i noticed.
these can all be backed up in Easy Studio PIM manager anyway.

I'm planning on doing this asap so I don't run the risk of losing stuff. Just got the phone today and have 7 working days to play with it and phone up orange if I don't like it. How long does the data cable take to arrive though?
I'm scared of really messing this up but my only other option is to move to o2 which i'm not so keen on :/
