Hi all, my first time post. I know you can use a compacted format to trransfer music files to the nokia 6230 using the nokia pc suite, but to do this it asks you to use midi files, you take the midi file and convert it into a compressed form of its original self..
But i only have mp3 files, so does any one know how to convert from mp3 to midi.
Doing this will allow far more music files to be stored on the limited 32mb memory card.

mp3s can't be converted to midi.
Midis also can't be compared with mp3s.
You've got to use Nokia Audio Manager to transfer music to the phone.

Thank you,
That would explain why my searches for a program to convert mp3 to midi have failed.
So does any one know a good free sorce of midi files or any files of real music files for ring tones.

Buy them or convert them on your own.
Midi-files do have copyrights, too.

MP3 (as well as other compressed WAVEs) and MIDI are fundamentally different ways of representing music, and the task of mp3 to MIDI conversion is very complicated. MIDI are commands and mp3 is waveform. More precise to speak about recognition, not conversion. This task is somewhat similar to speech or handwritten text recognition.
I have found clear description of this problem here:
