As for me, I cannot use this way due to Verizon blocking out the way to do it, however, When I had my Motorola V400 through Cingular, I could go through the process below and use it as a ringtone, Hopefully it will work for you eventhough it is an LG your trying to do, its basically the same concept for all phones. Hope this works for you.
1. Go to "Messaging"
2. Click "Create New"
3. Click "New Multimedia Message" (or something to that effect"
4. Once you have done that insert your cell phone number as the recepient of the message, you'll see why in a minute.
5. Then when you have inserted your own cellular number, and the dialogue for a message comes up, click insert, and hit "Voice Record".
6. Record the song you want and let it insert.
7. Now the tricky part, if you dont want to be charged for a MMS then you have to hurry up and cancel the transmission of the message, however, if you dont care then just let it send.
8. Once you have either cancelled the message or recieved it, go to where-ever the message is (Inbox, Outbox)
9. Open the message and click Options, or the menu button to bring up options for the message, Once you are here click "Save File" and it will bring up a file name of the Voice Record, click "Store As" and store it to apply it as a ringtone through the multimedia menu, or click "Apply As Ringtone".
Now for my phone it wont let me Apply is as a ringtone but it would let me on my V400.
Hope this helps. Let Me Know!

Motorola's use WAY different software from LG's. I don't wanna sounf mean when i say this but why post the method for a MOTO on the LG forum. The way that wa posted b4 works i swear. With LG's if you record the voice memo, it is automatically set and an any file, like voice1.* . Because of this the sounds need to be changed into an MMF format inorder for the phone to read them as ringtones. I;ve done it a few times, and it works great the way described earlier
