I have an LG L1400, since cingular greedily blocks all means of making personal ringtones, i tried recording a song, hoping to be able to use it as a ringtone....
when i go to media menu, it pops up with the same icon as the ringtones, except when i click it, it only allows me to send it as multimedia.....
Anyone know how to get around this and use the recorded audio as a ringtone? Thanks.

yes it is possible to create your own ringtones for a L1400. a friend of mine has one and I've made many ringtones for her. Granted you can't use the voice recorder on your phone, you have to follow the directions on how to make an .mmf file and send it to your phone instead. you can't use a whole song, but 30 seconds or less is more than sufficient. I've posted the directions before, but I'll repeat them here:
Needed Applications:
You'll need an application to convert the MP3 or CD to a WAV file. We suggest this free tool:
dBpowerAmp Converter 10.1
You'll also need the PSMPlayer for MMF conversion:
PSMPlayer
Conversion Steps:
1.We'll assume you're converting a file named "test.mp3" for this guide. Insert your own file name instead. Run dBpowerAmp and select the "test.mp3" file and click "Open".
2.Change the drop downs to be "Wave", "16 Bit (CD)", "8000 Hz", and "1 'Mono'".
3.Click "Convert >>" and once it's completed click "Finished" and you'll have a file named "test.wav" in the same directory as the MP3 source file (or in the C:\Converted Music\ directory).
4.Open the Windows Sound Recorder (included with Windows) and open the "test.wav" file created in step 3 (if you can't find Sound Recorder, Start->Run->"sndrec32"->OK).
5.Most phones that support MMF files have a 30k limit. This means you must shorten the ringtone to between 11 and 6 seconds. Some support 30 second MMF files, but start with smaller ones first. To crop the audio clip, use the "Edit" menu to "Delete Before Current Position" or "Delete After Current Position".
6.Click the "File" menu and select "Save" which will overwrite the "test.wav" file.
7.Run PSMPlayer, click the "File" menu, select "Open", and select the "test.wav" file.
8.Click the "File" menu, select "Create SMAF", and select "SMAF 16chords(J-SKY)".
9.Change the "Max Size (byte)" to 65536 and make sure "Use high quality WAV (8KHz)" is selected, then click "OK" and save the file as "test.mmf".
if you have a Mac computer, email me for alternate programs. both programs can be found on both by searching this forum and google. good luck and have fun!

Ok i found ot how to use voice records as ringtones. After you record the sound, e-mail it to your self in a Multimedia Message. When you save the file to the computer, it will be titled AMR1WAV, or something like that. Since the is no file extenstion to it, just rename the file to something like voice1.mp3 . Your computer will then recognize the file as an mp3, and it will even play in WMP. Now what you will have to have is a program to convert the mp3 file to an mmf file. I tried just saving the file as mmf but it doesn't work for some reason. Once you convert the file, you can send it to your phone in the way you choose. YOu can always use a data cable, as i have found most of the files save themsels to be about 19.5 KB so they will work with contents bank. If the file is larger than that, you can send them to your phone with a website funformobile dot com . You will recieve a link and you can then download the file via wireless web.
