I know I'm missing something obvious here and hopefully someone can point it out.
I just got a Motorola V551 phone and hooked it up via Bluetooth to Windows XP. Xp has no issues seeing it or controlling it. When I use the dialup feature (so I can get on the internet), it dials (the phone screen states it's dialing too), but almost instantly I hear a "error" tone on the phone and XP comes back with a 678 error - remote computer not responding. I know it's something simple (well.. I hope). Ideas?

in the xp connection manager may need a connect sript of some sort... your ISP should be able to walk you thru it...at first I thought it was a modem command...cant be... the 'puter is recogizing and its dialling...prolly a protocol or script...

I am also having this problem and was wondering id anyone has solved it.
I thought bluetooth would be very useful for me to connect with internet anywhere there was cell cocoverage. However, I always get the ERROR 678 within a few seconds of trying to dial up. When I manually dial the same number I have to wait about 8 seconds to hear the modem handshake noises. However, using the cell phone I get the computer not answering message and within about 3 seconds. Can you lengthen the time allowed to register a connection somehow??
Thank you

Sorry to disappoint you, but .... it's a GSM cell phone, not an analog modem. That analog modem, on the other end, is needs something to "talk" to, ala a PC based modem. Anywho, it will not work.
However, your cell phone can connect into Rogers or Cingular's data networks, but you have to pay Wireless Internet charges not voice minutes. You should be able to then 'tether' your PC to your cell phone via BLuetooth and get connected like that.

NoPhone, at first read I thought you had a good point about needing an actual analog modem. However, I see that with my bluetooth connected V551 I have a modem over bluetooth link in my device list. It has connection properties and diagnostics so I was thinking it should work, but when I run diagnostics there are a few commands not supported:
AT#CLS=? ,AT+GCI?, AT+GCI=?, and AT17. Is it one of those that precludes it's use as a modem?

The first time I tried it wall worked like it should. Perfectly. Then I called cingular for a data transfer plan.
Ever since then I get that same error. Fortunately if you are using a computer you can download their communicator program (which as mentioned above costs extra - but, cingular would charge you differently for data transfer anyway you do it) , and the communicator program works seemlessly with the phone.
So, I thought I would try my ASUS MyPal PDA which has bluetooth. I get the error again. There has to be a setting that we're missing, because it does comunicate to the phone, the phone starts to dial, but hangs up before the modem on the other end would have answered.
Still looking for the solution.
