Since it seems like it's going to be forever and a day before T-Mobile has cool phones again, I'm considering getting an unlocked phone off of eBay. Maybe this is a stupid question, but having not done it before...I figured I go ahead and ask...Is this possible? Just buy from a reputable seller and pop in my SIM? Could it be that easy? I'm thinking about the SE S710 or K700...
Thanks!

T -Mobile is suppose to come out with a couple new phones this month I think.... But yeah you can buy an unlocked phone from another GSM carrier, but you better hope that it is actually unlocked or you are opening yourself up for a pretty big headache because I do not think that the other GSM carriers have a good sim subsidy unlock policy like T-Mobile. I have heard alot of people that have bought supposed "unlocked" phones off ebay and they weren't but good luck!!

I have done it plenty of times and never had a problem. As you said buy from "a reputable seller". Good luck.

Ditto on what the 2 previous posts mentioned. Ebay can be very effective, just be sure to be a "wise" shopper. In fact, you can always ask the seller questions before you commit to buy anything. I have also purchased several phones for T-Mob's right from there without problems. Just ALWAYS be sure to read the item description very closely, and you should be 'good to go'!

Wayne

All T-Mobile phones are locked if you are not a customer and want to unlock the handset you must provide proof that you purchased the handset outright for retail cost, fax it in order to get the unlock code, only recently has T-Mobile offered to unlock handsets for those that are not or has ever been T-Mobile customers, if you email the inquiry you will receive the information needed you can go to any retail T-Mobile store to fax in the copy of the receipt showing that you paid retail price for the handset, we cannot unlock handsets through AT&T
The unlock department has a quick turnaround and the information is sen to the email address given
But previously T-Mobile would not unlock handsets unless you are or were a customer

The sim unlock request for customers that pay full price needs to be requested by the dealer at POP and only in California isn't it? (may be wrong on this one)

yes it is that easy. I just bought a unlocked SE S710a on ebay and all you have to do is pop in your SIm and you are ready to make calls. You will have to have your configure so that you can use your t-zones. The fastest way is to go to SE website but t-mobile can do it just call customer care and have them transfer you to the unsupported phone dept.

Even if the phone is still lock there are alot of place that can remotely unlock your phone. You no longer have to send your phone away.
