Hi to all! New to forum...been reading for a while, best one I've found! icon_biggrin.gif
I live in North Carolina and from my understanding there is no T-Mobile service here...yet one of the guys I work with said he got T-Mobile service...they just gave him a South Carolina number to connect to. Is that possible? I really want to do the same...been eyeing a gsm phone unlocked phone! Thanks!

Thanks for reply Samsung! I know for a fact there is no coverage in north carolina...it's not even listed as one of their coverage states...that's why I can't figure out how this doctor is getting coverage from T-Mobile. icon_blink.gif All he said was that he's got a South Carolina number. I know I should call T-Mobile and ask, but I thouhgt, well, maybe I was missing something?? and would check here first. Thanks anyway!!

Believe in NC you can get coverage but it is thru a roaming agreement with Bellsouth therefore TMobile would not have mobile #'s in the state but you can have TMobile service due to the roaming agreement..However, if you get a plan that has unlimited Tmobile to Tmobile the calls will not register as mobile to mobile calls due to the calls going thru another carrier....

Good post Tex I think that alot of people dont know that if you have the mob to mob feature on your account and you are not getting service off a T-Mobile tower regarless if the carrier you are getting service from is a Roaming partner, the feature will not work and all calls will be billed as if they were made to non tmobile personel.

I live in NC and I have the t mobile service.

Texan is correct. The roaming partners I am currently using are ATT wireless and Cingular.

Access to GSM features through these partners is very limited. ATT does not offer the feature at all. Only when I am on Cingulars network can I use Email, T-zones, and Picture messaging. Even then, you would have to have at least 2 bars of service to even connect to the network for GSM options. Then, once my phone reads Cingular, I am constantly having to turn it off and then on again to get on the network.

And service is horrible. I get no service in my home and I have to drive 5 minutes up the road to send a picture message.

I asked T mobile - They have no plans of expanding coverage here where I am.

Access to GPRS, not GSM services are more than just limited, they're restricted. There is no GPRS roaming agreement between TMobile and AT&T. There should be one arriving this year at some point. North Carolina you will have all GSM teleservices, ie call waiting/forwarding/ID. You will have no GPRS/Data access on AT&T (as of yet), however you will on Cingular.

FYI: I'm in a rural ara, about 25 miles outside of Raleigh. Using a Treo GSM, per a Feb move from the NE to this area. The phone roams on both Cingular and SunCom, the latter starting earlier this month. Since arriving in Feb, I've had no difficulty whatsoever, either in terms of voice or data. ChatterEMail constantly pushes email to the phone, and calls come in as expected. The comments re mobile-to-mobile are correct however. I can't dial "611" or other shortcuts, such as for voicemail, but since the full numbers are on speed-dial, it's not a hassle.

Yesterday in Greenville, NC I saw a billboard on the back of a traveling truck. The billboard said T-Mobile was now coming to NC, but did not see a specific date. Anyone know more details on this?
