I already called Cingular and told them that it just stopped working, and they said they would send me a new one. They also said that if they found water damage inside the phone, I would have to pay for the new one. What should I do?

That is hard to say. It is pretty easy to spot rusted water spots in circuit boards if there is any. It is up to you if you want to chance it. Was it totally submerged in water or just slightly?

Remove the battery, look at the back. There should be a small round sticker that is either white or bright red. This sticker shines a neon red when the phone gets wet, if it is still white, simply use some rubbing alchohol and a q tip to remove any rust or oxidation on the battery connector and send it to cingular via XBM (Exchange by mail) if the spot IS RED, then you will be charged 250 for the phone if you send it back.
