So, here it goes. I have been an ATT customer for about 4 1/2 years. I agreed to another 2 year contract last Feb. I was assured that I would have a replacement phone at 1year. (As my prior 2 yr. contract phone didn't last 2yrs, I swore I would never sign another 2yr contract, but when they offered a phone after 1 year I went ahead.) So, here I am at 13 months and my phone is now starting to shut itself off, and drop calls frequently. I also have 3 additional phones on this family plan that are the same model phone. They are OK so far, but are not quite as old, as they were added later in the year. 59.99 is my gsm plan + 9.99 mo for each add. phone. I also have a 7pm calling time inc. in the plan at no additonal charge. I tried to replace my phone on the internet, but was informed I had to phone Cingular. I spoke with them and they said that they do not have any ATT phones left and I must migrate in order to get my phone replaced. (I must migrate and replace all 4 phones!) They will not give me a plan comparable to my ATT plan. Less minutes, more money and extra money for 7pm........Are they not in violation of my contract?? I didn't buy insurance as I never lose the phone and I new it would be replaced after 1 year in service! Does anyone have any suggestions. I live in an area where only ATT/Cingular and Verizon work. (Verizon is even more money, that is if I could even get a 7pm calling time from them. ) How do I get Cingular to replace my ATT phone? icon_cry.gif icon_sad.gif

your options are limited... where the phones are manufactured to the specs of a provider... ATT as a provider ceased to exist last fall... ergo no new phones...regrettably your customer first program is a moot point... the easiest thing would be ebay... get an ATT branded phone or an unlocked phone and put in the sim from the now defective phone and the problem is solved

Well, that's what I figured might be the case.......now, what happens to people who had insurance for their ATT phone which now no longer works? Does lock line replace it with another ATT phone? If they can't do that, than are people paying lockline for coverage they don't ha icon_blink.gif e?

OK, it might be a good idea for me to purchase insurance for the other 3 phones on my account........what happens when my 2 year contract is up? Do I get to continue with my plan indefinitly, purchasing phones on ebay for as long as I can find them, or must I then migrate to Cingular? The answer to that question will indicate to me if I should be spending the extra money every month to insure these other phones.

Thanks for all of the feedback. icon_cool.gif

the migration option wil work for you if your intention is to replace all the phone on your shared service (migration is all or none with shared plans) if you recently bought or dont want to buy from what used to be ATT... ebay is about the best way to go....as for the insurance cost... do the math... 4.99 x xthe number of lines per month.... this could factor heavily.... I dont use provider offered insurance ... I fund it much more economical thru my house insurance.... 2 bux a month for 400.00 of coverage....

Well, after a 30 minute wait, I spoke with Cingular again...this time they have ATT Motorola v180 free with a two year renewal on an ATT contract! Things change from day to day. I think it depends on how well the person I am talking to knows how to search their data base.......I asked her 3 times; this has to be an ATT contract as I am not migrating at this time. (It would cost me $24.00 more per month for the same service to migrate to Cingular right now.) I figure it must be ATT, as this is a family plan and I am replacing only 1 phone. There is a 15.00 activation fee and 9.99 shipping. So, I am going to go for it. icon_rolleyes.gif I hope that she and I are on the same page........

I just love this stuff. So, I ordered the ATT Motorola today from Cingular, I was explicit in that I told the customer service rep. I wanted to use my old Sim card. This afternoon my Samsung quit working. It seems that Cingular zapped my Sim card........ Since I live in a remote area it is impossible to receive the phone overnight! I won't have my business phone for a couple of days.........ugh. They did offer to forward my calls for free in the interim time. They really are trying to make it better. What a trip. icon_ermm.gif The quality of the customer service really does have to do with the personality who gets the call. Some people are just more willing to go the extra mile than others. I guess this is the price I have to pay to be an ATT holdout for awhile longer.........

Be careful there....I do this for a living....

if you are ordering a new phone only the standard practice is to use the existing simcard... I would call immediatly to ensure you were not migrated.... use that word "migrated"

if you were start immediatly to reverse migrate your service... you do have 30 days to do so...

unless the rep inadvertantly added a new sim to the order....

I sure wish I took your call
