I recently switched from occasional cell phone use to making my personal and business phones cell phones (Cingular, two Motorola V180's). I was surprised to find that there are no two-line cell phones available. I've been using two-line cordless (land line) phones for 10 years. They are readily available and very useful. Now I have to carry two cell phones for the two numbers instead of only one phone that handles both numbers. Why aren't two-line cell phones being made?
Thanks,
Mick Ruthven

your v180 can ony accept 1 sim... 1 sim 1 phone number... I have heard of dual sim kits available for some models... check with the manufacturer or an after market supplier

I just found this in a wifi-forum.com message. I don't know if it's true. Does anyone know...
------------
a GSM carrier can easily provision any SIM for dual-line service and all GSM phones have this ability. While I know of no current US carrier who offers this service, a number of foreign carriers do (e.g. SwissCom, SingTel, T-Mobile (D)). Some US
carriers used to provide this as an option. I know Iowa Wireless did and beieive that Omnipoint and P'tel did. It's just a business decision the US carriers made to not offer it. You might actually find a few customers still running around with this as an optional feature on their grandfathered accounts.

I really didnt want to mention it...but yes it is possible....however... it would be a billing nightmare... speaking as a person who explains cell phone bills for a living ( I am a care rep for former ATTWS) I can only imagine double-indeminty of 2 phone numbers on 1 bill...(shudder)...the average person has a hard time understanding 1 invoice let alone dual service invoices......I'm not talking about Billy-Bob Redneck either.....

There used to be a company in Lower western Kentucky that offered 2 line cellular telephones and there was also coverage in Nashville TN, until a new company, i believe alltell bought the GSM market, and sent all customers a 300.00 check and said have a nice F*****G time b/c they are no longer offering that service!!

I have two active phone numbers (actual two line service) with my Motorola i90c through Nextel and is billed very clearly.
What I am looking for is a Blackberry/Phone or Palm/Phone that has 2 line service.
Does this exist?
If not, can I retro fit one of these phones to acquire two line service?
Thanks for your help!

I too am looking for a two line (or more) cell phone with all the PDA fixins...not necessarily Palm because the added challenge for me is that I am a Mac user and want to sync up with my address book, calendar and tasks from my laptop (and Palm claims it is going to Phase out support for Macs).
Currently, I have a Sony Ericsson P910a and it syncs (mostly OK) with my Powerbook but I need separate phone lines for business and person uses.
Would appreciate any new info and any insight as to an audience willing to listen to those of us with these needs...government, manufacturer, service provider?
thanks

Me too, I am looking for a phone which offers the possibility to insert two SIM-cards, and that both would run simultaniously. So the owner could use his regular SIM card, and have at the same time a SIM-card of unitedroaming.com with which he can roam and receive calls in 60 countries worldwide for free. So he could receive (ans make) calls on both his regular line as well as on hte unitedroaming.com line.
I do not mean a dual-SIM adapter, bc then you would be limited to one active number at a time. I am looking for a device/phone which allows both numbers to receive/make calls at the same time.

I too am looking for a two line cell phone. I currently carry 2 phones - one for work, and one personal. They are both Cingular phones, but on different accounts. Is there anyone developing a phone that would accept 2 SIMM cards? I've read some speculation that the soon to be released iphone may have this capabilities. Anyone heard of this?
