I will tell you something that you might not want to hear. When I first got my v400 and MPT, I had the same problem. I tried it on 4 different computers with the same result. I would connect the phone and it would say "initializing" and after a minute or so it would show the little red circle with the line through it...meaning it wasn't working.
I spent about an hour on the phone with motorola to get some answers and got nowhere. I was convinced that I had a bad cable so I went to buy another one. For the hell of it, I decided to hook up my wife's new v400 with the "bad" cable, on my computer. It worked immediately.
Long story short, the problem was the phone. I had to send it back for a new one.
Keep that in mind.

thanks for the tip, motorola told me the same thing that it could be my phone but my wife as well has the same phone as does my brother. . all three will not work. . ...but then again they was all three gotten at the same time with a deal we had set up with cellular one. . .i might try to find someone else around here that has one and see if theirs will work. . .shew i was starting to think i was just a total goof on hooking this thing up and it was all me. . not that im glad you had bad luck just lets me know its not all me this time. .thanks again
