This is the question I have been wondering about. Is there other ISP other than A MEdia Net that I can use with an unlocked phone?

you are limited to the service provided by your cell provider ( in North America anyways... dunno about elsewhere)

I have to admit that this posting suprises me, as I am doing at this very moment that which primitivo56 says cannot be done. I am using a Motorola v551 connected to my Win2k computer via bluetooth. I've also done it using the dedicated usb data cable on my v551 & v400.
I have had this service for about 8 months, and it is the reason I gave up an unlimited voice plan (49/mo).

The cheapest data plan that allows you to use your phone as a modem is $24.95 for 10MB. Unlimited Data is $79. I just switched from unlimited MediaNet to the 10MB data plan. |

hmmmm, is this why I can't get my motorola V551 to connect to the internet, (via Mobile Phone Tools on laptop and bluetooth) because I'm signed up for MEdia Works and not a data plan/package?
I just assumed that when I signed up for Cingular's MEdia Works package that I could use that to connect my laptop to the internet via my phone.
If so, why the heck didn't Cingular's CSR's figure that out? I've spent hours on the phone with them, and no one brought that up.

I did too, the Cingular reps are clueless.
If the rate for the unlimited data plan that allows me to tether my 6620 to my Laptop was reasonable (i.e. ~$20-40), I'd sign up today.

I got mine to work via Bluetooth. The problem I had was I wasn't signed up for the "data plan". Once I signed up for that, it worked (and still does).
Kinda expensive though.

I had the mediaworks with unlimited net for 20. Then cingular desided to just change my contract to the 3. Only reason i had it cause when i signed the contract they told me aim used my internet. Then they again desided to change my plan and say aim uses my text.... so no more net

You can definitely do this with most providers (except for verizon , they always get you, and they lock down all their phones)
Here's how to do it with T-Mobile's Unlimited T-MobileWeb:
T-Mobile Internet Settings
And here's how to do it with Cingular's " SmartPhone Connect Unlimited w/Xpress Mail" which costs $19.99 without a plan and $14.99 with a plan (it's called Media Net Unlimited, without any messaging or other options)
Cingular Internet Settings
