ttt for roaming question?

I thought one was roaming if using another carriers tower? We have nationwide, and would like to know when we are actually roaming.

How do you get a non roaming charge plan? price?

roaming is defined by your home calling area...ie if you are on a local plan and are with Cingular... lets say you are from new york...

your home calling area is basically the northeast... if you hop on a plane and do to chicago... you are roaming...

if your rate plan is a national plan... your home calling area is the whole country and you are not roaming...because even though you are from new york ...chicago is still within your home calling area (inside the country)

a LOT of people get roaming and long distance confused

long distance is where you are calling to.... roaming is where you are calling from...

now to the original question... are you roaming if on another carriers tower... possibly is the answer...it depends on some other factors like carrier ...rate plan ...and cross carrier roaming agreements

generally speaking cingular and tmobile have a national roaming agreement.. each will allow the other network access...those 2 are the major GSM carriers... the others I have no idea but presumably have similar setups

call your carrier to be sure...or go to their website...almost all of them have a cutomer login portal you should be able to bring up the map...

I have the same thing on my new Cingular 551. I called Cingular service and they didn't know. I stopped at the mall and asked 4 cell guys and they didn't know. At this point, I'm going to email my brother who works for Moto (but not in phones) and get an answer. I'll post when I hear from him.

Elmo, they are referring to my question about roaming, not the Edge. Cathy did you hear back?

v551's with earlier software probably wont show this icon, this was a fix implemented in later models.

mobilepimp can older v551 phones be upgraded to the newer edge service?

I don't believe so. The best thing to do is post this question in the Moto Forum. You may be able to flash it. I honestly don't think it's possible.
