I have the Motorola V551 and where the GPRS indicator should be there is an 'E' with two small lines under it. I have now idea what this means. Does anyone know what it might mean. The reason I ask is that the phone is new (2 days old) and I'am using Cingular as my provider.

v551's with earlier software probably wont show this icon, this was a fix implemented in later models.

Can the old ones be updated easily?

We got a V551 recently, and just today, the GPRS icon isn't there ?? why did it disappear?

Also, will I know when my phone is roaming? Will an icon show up? I know the manual shows an icon for roaming, but says your phone has to have this service set up for it. ??

the GPRS icon means that you have a data connection available... you *may* be in a no data area... your phone will not give an accurate indication of roaming... your rate plan defines that if you are on a national talk plan you home calling are is the entire country exept for alaska i do believe......if you are on a regional talk plan your home calling area is within your region... for a look at that map go to cingular.com... log into the customer website and view coverage map

Yes, we have Nationwide talk plan, and I'm using the phone in the same home that I did when I had the icon show up just yesterday.

How will we know if we are roaming or not?

if you are inside the USA you are not roaming...if you leave the USA you are....

the roam icon on the phone just knows your home tower... no connection at all to the billing of the call
