Hi,
I currently have one of those old $6.99/month (no minutes) local digital plan. My phone has died and I need to upgrade. I was told conflicting information by Verizon. My friend will give me his LG VX6000. Because it has a camera (which I don't ever intend to use), I'm told that it's incompatible with my plan by the local Verizon store (official store not kiosks). They say that the camera phones work on a different format even though my intention is to use it as a regular phone. Any experience or inside information to validate or dispute this is much appreciated.
Thanx in advance for any help.

I would call Verizons customer care... they dont get commissions for new sales and are more apt to get an accurate answer

Verizon does not have analog only phones any more. If you try to get a new pohne it will be digital and you plan does not support digital, therefore, they cannot activate it. They do have digital plans as low as 15 dollars a month.

It is correct that you can no longer activate a phone on the old plan. It isn't just the store guy throwing out a line, it's true. As you referenced in the last post, the footprint essentially reflects an analog footprint. You'd be smacked with roaming pretty heavily if you did (depending on the plan). The plan is not 'PRL' supportable so, in effect, the phone will pick up every Verizon tower it was created to get but your plan may not support the coverage and create the roaming. A PRL tells your phone where it can or can't roam. Your old plan was never created with this ability in mind.
If you go to the low end plan, that's the best bet. Likely that will require a contract, so ensure that point when you call.

I agree with the person in the last post. I would like to clarify the plan details for Verizon. You do NOT have to renew your contract, but if you do you get 250 night and weekend minutes. The 15 dollar version has 25 anytime minutes and the 20 dollar version has 50 anytime minutes. Let me know if you have any trouble b__smith001@hotmail.com

Well, if you go by Verizon terms of plan accpetance requirements, it should extend the contract.

It only extends your contract if you accept a promotional feature, in this case N&W minutes.
