I bought the sidekick II last sunday in Miami while on vacation. The tmobile stand where I bought it (Sawgrass Mall) assured me it was simlockfree and would work with my sim from the Netherlands. After calling several times with customer service I finally found out it will take 90 days before I receive the code to unlock it. WHY??? I even went and bought a prepaid tmobile (US) sim so it could be unlocked; that was one of the options I got from a customer service rep. I payed another $50 for that and it still doesn't work. Can someone please help me with this? Is there another way to get the phone unlocked (like now)?

you have to have 90 days of tenure with the company you dont need to wait 90 days for them to come up with the code for you.

Were you hoping to use the sidekick for the data features? Even with an unlock code, the data features (internet, aim, etc) will not work. All you can do is make phone calls and send txt messages. Part of the operating system the sidekick uses is tied to the carrier it was made for. also, the sidekick will connect to backend servers for that carrier. Rodgers does not have a connection to these backend servers if I'm correct, and if they did, you would need to buy their version of the sidekick.

I have Cingular and am trying to buy an unlocked Sidekick 2. This means I am still using my Cingular service and I just have to pay T-Mobile the $30 bucks or whatever a month for the internet usage right?

That's correct. Sidekick data only option is 29.99/month.

Has anyone put in a Cingular sim card into a Sidekick 2 and had it work? I went to Cingular to ask if it would work and the dude there said it wouldn't. He said he tried it and it didn't work at all. Is he lying? Also, when I go to T-Mobile, they won't question me as to how I got the phone and why I'm not using their phone service right? And lastly, is the data card somewhat like a sim card that is just placed in the phone?
