My son is going to be traveling to Germany and is taking my V400 phone. T-Mobile tells me that the phone needs to have the band changed to 900 MHz for use in Germany but I can't find in the manual how to change the frequency band. Does anybody know how to do this? I was hoping the band would change automatically as the phone detected the different frequency. Thanks for your help.

Go to the fone setting--> network--nework set up selected you will see band is might be on automatic which it will select available bandwidth but if it have a tought time doing so then you can manualy select 900/1800 to use. This fone is quardband but Tmobil have cripled down to triband but still should be fine to use over there, but here is the thing to concern about.
You need to unlock the fone so that when he get there he can buy a prepaid simcard and use ( cheaper much cheaper) to avoid using international service which cost roughtly about $3 per min. Some country in ASIA $20 can buy 350 min and only get charge to your minute when making a call but not cost anything to receive a call. I thinl only US charge us both way. Email me if you need more info

Thank you so very much for the replies and information. The phone is actually a Cingular phone I bought off ebay that is unlocked and is being used now with my T-Mobile Sim card. Myself, I have a V600 but my wife uses a V400...she is a Cingular customer....and I was impressed with it, so I got one for my son to use on his trip to Germany. It seems to be a more rugged phone than my V600.

T-Mobile is telling me that it should only cost about 99 cents a minute to call from Germany.

I looked into a prepaid sim card but they seemed expensive, about $59 for the card with only 7 minutes of talk time on initial card purchase. You then have to purchase additional minutes when in-country.

Again, thanks for the help.

I think if you get there and check around amybe there will be some other provider will be much cheaper. But then again each contry is different. The international rate i got was little over a year a go by AT&T for Vietnam so maybe is much cheaper now
