You know, if you let the csr know you're recording the calls you can record them and then have your proof you're looking for. Otherwise, most changes to the account will have a package sent out to you within a couple days, depending on the case. And yes, it is a big company, but when people call in and get irate about it they don't realize they're dealing with another person on the other end. Have you ever been on the other side of the fence with an angry barking person coming at you sideways? It's not too motivating, and usually only muddles things up.

Very true as well, that they won't send anything in writing for the sake of possible lawsuits based on what an individual representing the company may state.

Here is my letter to Verizon:
December 7, 2007
As of the 28th of November, 2007, I happily transferred my cellular service from Verizon and switched to one of Verizon’s competitors. I have been a customer of Verizon’s for five years. I was content up until recently when Verizon Wireless tried to shamefully question my intelligence, by seeing how far they can take advantage of me.
I originally had the service under my significant other’s name, being that the service was purchased as a gift five years ago. When I transferred the service, I was asked to give a $400 deposit. I was reluctant, but they assured me as long as I pay on time for a year I would get my full deposit back. Once the year had past, I called Verizon to claim my deposit, expecting a short and simple exchange of information. To my surprise, it was anything but short and simple. I was astonished to find that Verizon had claimed to have record of any deposit. They had asked me to prove it, knowing very well that must people don’t keep receipts and don’t always know where they put them. At that moment, I was made aware that this was a shameless ploy in keeping the deposits of hard-working people.
However, to Verizon’s surprise, I do keep my receipts and know where they are. Once I submitted my proof of payment via fax, I was not only given the run-around as to why my deposit was or was not going to be returned (I was given different reasons every time) for an entire month, I was not surprised when they ended up losing the fax of the copy of my paid deposit once again! At this point, I was so disgusted that a company that claims to be the “Most Reliable Wireless Network” (I have discovered this is definitely not true, in terms of reception), could steal people’s deposits and try and get away with it. I eventually did get my deposit back when they know I was going down without a fight. Verizon did not get one over on me, but it is unfortunate that they are capable of such greed with other unknowing people.
Verizon Wireless has officially lost me as a loyal customer and I have been certain to share my influential opinions with my friends and family, especially those who use to be in my Verizon network. It also helps that I am in the Public Relations business. Additionally, I have been bragging about how I now have clear reception at my home with my new cell phone provider, whereas with Verizon I couldn’t even get two words in before losing the call. Now is that what I should expect from the company that is supposedly “America’s Most Reliable Wireless Network?” Thanks, but no thanks.
Another Disappointed Customer,
CM

It sounds like a poor experience, and I don't blame you for feeling that way. Especially when in regards to the security deposit at that amount. Just to be clear on a couple things though, how did you originally sign up with VZW? Was it through a store, indirect store, online or.? This wouldn't be the first time I've heard of something like this.
