how to make the MP3 files smaller on the program?

hey guys im new to this i have this program Audacity,i have no idea how to use it icon_ermm.gif so can somone help me with it,i want to put it on my SD card but make the files smaller,i have a treo 600,any help plz.

what is that program, and what does it do? i have not heard of it. anyways, if you had the thing were u connect a cord to your fone fromthe comp, u can make it smaller, or just email them 2 ur phone smaller.

na i wanted to make it smaller then put it on my DS card so i dont take up all my memory,i wanted to convert it or whatever to make it smaller,i have a 6 in 1 card reader,i put my card in thier then transfer the music to it,then i liste to it on my phone.

oh.. well um imnot sure on the 'card reader' but try this..
EXAMPLE:

"ocean avenue"-the song
1-u can open it in your comp, and make it a .wav file,
2-then go and cut the song up how u want it"chorus",
3-then save it as the same .wav file, and l8tr
4- go to ur program and make it a .mp3 file, and
5-transfer it into ur phone..

is that wat you mean? by transfer, althought it may take 0000somany bites, and could shorten memmory.

Audacity need to have Lame to run and it only work with mp3 files.
You can use mp3 cutter.
I use cd riper and ripit out to mp3 in 64kb the use audacity to cut and all that stuff the do save selection as mp3 then you can now do anything with it as you wish
