ok right now i have cingular wireless family talk. I have a sony ericsson z500a and I am planning on buying a SE s710 from ebay. Can i take the sim card from my z500a and put it into my s710 when i get it and keep my same phone number (i am not adding another line)

As long as the phone is either unlocked, or Cingular branded, you can just pop in your sim and go. Your account and phone number are programmed into the card, so your phone number won't change no matter what phone you're using.

ok but what about the imei number i sent in a rebate so i think they have it

It doesn't matter if they have it or not. As long as it works, you can use any phone with your sim. If they have it, it makes it easier to report if it gets stolen and have them deactivate it.
