What you are looking for is a sim subsidy unlock code (so you can use the phone with any GSM service provider). Is the phone T-Mobile branded, because if it is they will give you the sim unlock code as long as you have had 90 days of active service and you are current on your bill. If you want to do it yourself you will need a smart clip (cheapest is about 70$ on ebay) or a data cable and the know how to flash the phone with a firmware version that doesnt have the service providers lock in it. Good luck

Once you get the sim subsidy unlock code you take the carriers lock off the phone, You can then put a sim card from any other GSM provider worldwide into the phone and use their service, your not just restricted to using your phone with Tmobile D1. You will still be able to use your existing prepaid sim card in the phone once it is unlcocked. no prob by the way

Isn't it unsafe to list your imei # to the public??? I was told that in the past. Comments?

depends on how paranoid you are..
if I know your IMEI I could get the unlock code for your service ...now what can I do with it if I dont have the device in my hand...
now if your have an older digital phone (TDMA) or a CDMA phone with an ESN more nasty things can be done... no I will not disclosee... don even ask (anybody)
that clear things up for ya duce?

So what you are saying is that there are no real danger for posting your imei # if you have a newer phone?

with my experience the ESN and the IMEI are like almost the exact same only the last digit differs, you have a 1 in 10 chance of getting it if you have the IMEI.
