My wife and I want to upgrade our older and bulkier Nokia's to smaller phones and our provider (Cingular) is currently offering the SE T316 World Phone for very little cost on a 2-yr contract. So I've come here hoping to find out the pros and cons on the T316 (GSM version).
Thanks in advance...

Any Sony Ericsson T3xx phone is good. The coverage is ok and the reception isnt great but it holds onto weak signals. Versatility is high as in how much you can do and customize and personalize your phone to be YOUR phone. Plus t310 and t316 are sexy SEXY phones with a crazy faceplate.
You WILL enjoy your phone.

Btw, can I expect good 'battery-time' on the T316?

With phones there are weird charging methods you SHOULD follow. When you first get your phone, you should charge it for a full 12-14 hours even if the battery looks like its full.
If you dont do it its ok, just let the batt run dry and charge again for a full 12 hrs. This actually allows your battery to perform its FULL potential long term rather than having your battery become prematurely dead-charge every other night.
Since its a backlit color phone, battery life for ME anyway is about a charge every 3-5 days. Even when the battery indicates empty (white battery opposed to a full green) it still lasted 10 hrs before it died, so its good.
If you're willing to spend the money, get a t610 or t616. They are @#@)$@)_$@%+@ good.

Thanks mettleh3d:
One final question... My wife's hearing is a little impaired, so can the T316's ringer and reception volume be cranked-up?

A feature with Sony Ericssons are that the ring tones start low and gradually ring to the highest ring setting. This was set to protect and preserve the speaker of the phone, you cant change this rise ring feature, but the vibrate should make the recipient aware that a call is coming, which should be still good.
The phone is not as LOUD as can be, but can be easily heard and used in a busy public location (i.e. outside in Downtown ___). The phone would and should come with its very own earpiece since the piece is customized for only SEs. You noe Sony...
Enjoy your phone, surfer

Enjoy your phone, surfer | Thanks again for the feedback, but although it may work out well for me, it's beginning to sound as if this phone may not be well-suited for my wife. As mentioned, she is hard of hearing and wears hearing aids but she still has to turn up the ring/reception volume on her Nokia (vibrate won't help when the phone is in her purse)!
