Hi guys
This is a brilliant site, so much information. I hope you can help with my problem.
Phone: Nokia 6230
Purchased: 18 Feb 2005
I am having trouble with my Nokia headsets. The headset supplied with the phone (HDS-3) worked for a month and then one earplug (left side) stopped functioning. When I play around with the wire then both earplugs work, unfortunately as soon as I let go the left earplug goes dead. As it was always the same earplug I thought I had a faulty set of headphones.
This wasn’t so much of a problem as I wanted to upgrade my headset to the HS-3. My new headsets arrived today. This is where its starts getting strange. When I listen to the radio both earplugs work perfectly even when walking up and down briskly. However when I make a call one earplug goes dead, the left one again and when I listen to mp3 on my mmc card the same earplug goes dead.
I have tried deleting all the mp3’s and uploading new ones but no luck.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I think the contacts are dirty. If not, you did not plug the headset in fully or properly. I too have these problems occassionally but after a few connects and disconnects, adjustments, it will be fine.
Thats the reason why i don't like nokia's pop port connectors. They are lousy.......even much worst on my old 6100 (Very loose). IMHO, they are not rugged enough for daily use.
And, if possible, try not to use different headsets too often. I have 2 pairs of HS-3. One modified to take 3.5mm mini plugs and the other original. Once i keep using the mod HS-3, the phone will have a little problems connecting and recognising the orginal HS-3. It takes a while and several adjustments on my part to get it to work perfectly. It is the same the other way round.
Sometimes, i have problems with the music stand DT-1 too. But after a few adjustments, it will be fine. It has been quite sometime since i last plug in a HDS-3.
So i guess that your problem is pretty normal. A little patience while connecting it will fix the problem. If the problem still persist, then it might be a faulty pop port connector. That, only Nokia can help you.

u noe what i did..i had the same problem. sometimes one side goes dead or softer....anyway, it sometimes works fine...
one day i was juz playing..was testing which contact goes to what.i used a tissue paper and put it between the headphone jack and the plug. and i learnt that the first 3 is what recognised the headset. the others on the right are either left or right sides.
so.after playing around with different contacts touching and some bloacked by tissue, when finished, i tested it again and now no matter how i play with the thing, it has no problem on both sides!
that worked for a while.today i juz realize that it sometimes goes dead again. but not as serious as before..
duno if will damage it, but maybe doing the tissue thuing helps to clean the connectors and therefore works better. i might do it again when free.
so, maybe u could try, bbut if ur tissue gets stuck inside, not my fault. haha! do at ur own risk!

afbug thanks for your reply.
I have tried all you suggested with no success.
There is only one Nokia repair centre near me and they, “have gone away for the next two weeks”. Guess I’ll just have to wait ..

Thanks for the info! Am not sure if i'll risk it though! i might do some permanent damage!
