Im having trouble with this whole thing. I got a UBS data cable and am trying to get my comp and the easygprs to recongize it. I realize that I need to convert the usb to com1, but i try downloading the driver, the "PL-2303" but that does not seem to do anything. IT hardware manager, it says something about tx line driver. At this point I am getting so frusterated, so any help would be appreciated. I have been searching on this forum site for a very long time and people keep getting the same answer. Someone please help me. I just want the phone to be seen by the easygprs software, and all the steps leading up to doing it. THANK YOU

Assuming that you get the correct usb cable since I got the wrong cable at the first time. After you installed the usb-serial driver, you should be able to see a usb-to-serial bridge (COM3) under Ports of Device Manager. It may display COM4 if COM3 is already assigned for modem. Remember which COM port is used for the usb-to-serial thing since you have to set that in GPRS. Also, assuming that you download the right GPRS software from Samsung for E315. When you go to setup of GPRS, I think by default it use COM1 since Samsung only offer serial cable. Change COM1 to the same port as the usb-to-serial driver reported. As for the speed, by default it is 115200 (same reason as before, it is the speed for serial cable). Change the speed to 230400. After that, it should detect the phone. If it still doesn't work, you have to double check if you has the right cable, the right usb-serial driver and the right GPRS software. I know it is very frustrated to get the usb cable to work since both the service provider and Samsung will not provide the support you need. In my case, it took me more than a week to make it work for my E316. Hope that you can make it work soon.

If you don't see COM3 in setup of Easy GPRS, my guess is the usb-serial driver is not installed properly. Go to Device Manager and under Ports, do you see something like usb-serial (COM3)? If not, what is under Ports?

thanks for repling by the way, it only has the com1 and com2. could you possibly give me a link to a more reliable driver then the one i have. and and another thing, the usb chord itself does not have a driver. like the usb tx line is under unknown devices. is there a way i can get a driver for that? oh and i know the cord works because when i plug it into my phone, the phone screen lights up and what not, so im pretty sure my chord is compatable, i just need the correct software.

This driver from Mobile Action works for my E316 but the handset manager is not. I have to use Samsung's Easy GPRS. The link for the driver is as follows:

One more thing for your reference. The first cord that I bought was for E808 and when I plug it into my phone, it also woke up my phone and gave a beep sound and the charging indicator was moving. The sale person also thought that the cable should work for my phone. But later I found that from Mobile Action web site (faq) that cable for E808 is not compatible with E316. I have to change another cable from another shop. This time, the sales guy said that he had tried the cable with E316 and confirmed it works and it does. If you search the web site of Mobile Action, you can find that they carry 4 different cables for Samsung Cellular phone.

ok i tried to use that driver but i dont know what im doing with it. I tried using it to install the actual usb tx line thing in the device manager but that didnt work. Even without the chord, shouldnt the pl2302 driver make a com3 so that the samsung thing can work with easygprs? Thanks

Mine work with the driver from Mobile Action. Go to the link in my previous post and download the driver "MA-8220 USB Cable Device Driver & Modem". Download the manual as well. As it provides all the details on how to install the driver as well as uninstall any previous driver. If the driver is installed correctly, no matter it is from MA or prolific, when you plug in the cable to your computer you should see an extra port under Ports of Device Manger. When you disconnect the cable from your computer, it will go away. In my case with MA driver, it displays MAT USB-to-Serial Bridge (COM4) in Device Manager.

alright, i'm beginning to think i need some kind of special software for the chord i have. Its like this chord does not have a driver. i tryed to install it but its like it doesnt see it. it asks me to plug in my chord, my comp sees it, but the software, any of the software, does not see it. of all the chords on ebay, i pick the one that doesnt work HA. well, thank you for your time, if you think of any other ideas before i drop another 10 on a chord, please reply, thanks.
